“Two more matches for one of us” Edgar said and Adam nodded—the tournament was rapidly drawing to a close for the undefeated players. Edgar whiffed on a Top 8 finish in the Standard Open yesterday for the first time and today he'd need to make the elimination rounds in order to keep his Top 8 streak alive for the fourth week. Level 4 Adam Cai stood in his way piloting a unique Lands variant that featured Knight of the Reliquary.
Adam won the die roll and kept opening on Tropical Island and Mox Diamond but Edgar countered the Diamond with a Force of Will removing Stifle. On his own turn he dropped a Tropical Island while Adam cycled a Tranquil Thicket and then tried a Mox Diamond again discarding a Mishra's Factory. Adam tried to Wasteland Edgar's Tropical but a Stifle shut him down. Life from the Loam for all those lands followed and Edgar's eyes went wide. He cast Ponder and dropped Verdant Catacombs passing.
Adam dredged back the Loam flipping a Savannah a Rishadan Port and a Knight. Wasteland took out Edgar's Tropical and Life from the Loam returned Wasteland and Port. Edgar cracked a second fetch with his first to summon a Tarmogoyf hoping to club his opponent to death in spite of the Wasteland lockdown. The next dredge hit an Exploration a Karakas and another Tranquil Thicket as Adam continued on. He cast Crop Rotation turning his Tropical Island into The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale. Wasteland shot Underground Sea leaving Edgar with just a Tropical that he would need to tap to keep his Tarmogoyf alive—he chose not to.
Edgar drew and played Polluted Delta as Adam cycled a Tranquil Thicket doing nothing on his turn other than frowning. Loam returned another Wasteland a Tranquil Thicket and a Savannah but Adam let Edgar hand onto his Tropical. Edgar dropped a Bayou and passed losing both lands immediately on Adam's next turn. He had a lone Polluted Delta in play as Adam continued to dredge up his deck. Another Loam grabbed both Wastelands back Adam discarding Tranquil Thicket during cleanup.
Edgar cracked his fetch to Ponder for a way out of this predicament but he remained stuck after keeping all the cards. He lost his Sea falling to no permanents as Mishra's Factory began to beat down. A Wasteland wasn't going to stop Adam but it was all Edgar could muster. He burned it on the Tabernacle on Adam's next turn dropping Polluted Delta. Adam used Rishadan port to make him crack it following with a Wasteland.
Once again on no permanents Edgar decided to scoop. “I know when I'm beat” he admitted.

Both players kept for the second game and Edgar opened on a Polluted Delta. Adam had just a Forest and Edgar took that opportunity to fetch up an Underground Sea and Brainstorm during Adam's end step. He dropped a Polluted Delta and sighed contemplating what he should do next. He wasn't familiar with the matchup making a lot of his plays exercises in theory-crafting. “I don't think this is right but I'm going to Hymn you” Edgar said. A Life from the Loam and a Bayou were not the pitches he wanted to see!
The dredge flipped a Karakas Factory and an Engineered Explosives and a Wasteland destroyed Edgar's Underground Sea. Edgar cast Phyrexian Revoker naming Wasteland to break the lock for now but The Tabernacle charged him a tariff for the privilege. He cracked a fetch to drop Tombstalker after paying for the 2/1 suddenly on the offensive. Adam's Maze of Ith would buy him a lot of time although Edgar used a Force of Will pitching Brainstorm to counter Explore and keep the Loam in check. Edgar Thoughtseized sniping a Worm Harvest from Adam's hand and leaving him with a pair of Intuitions and a Life from the Loam as the Revoker beat him to 14.
Adam drew and cast an Exploration prompting a shout from Edgar. “I think you win this one' he said gamely attacking with his Revoker but adding a Tarmogoyf to the board. If he could pile on the damage this might just be enough. Life from the Loam returned Wasteland and Mishra's Factory the latter coming into play. Edgar continued to pay for his creatures drawing a killjoy Wasteland off the top of the deck—his own Revoker prevented him from buying an attack through the Maze. Edgar squeezed in 5 damage to drop Adam to 7 passing the turn as Adam prepared to dredge Life from the Loam.
He cast it finding only mana-producing lands as he built toward Worm Harvest. Edgar sent in his team on the next turn after paying for all three members of the team and a Factory slew the Revoker to put Adam on 2 life. Without a second Maze or a way to stop the Tombstalker he would be dead to the next attack—unfortunately for Edgar his next dredge found another Maze. Wasteland destroyed Edgar's untapped Wasteland prompting a Brainstorm in response before killing the Maze. Adam snagged it back with a Loam and played it passing the turn dead to a Wasteland with just the one Maze in play.

Adam kept his hand for the last game but Edgar quickly mulliganed. He kept his next hand and watched Adam open on Mox Diamond and Rishadan Port discarding Mishra's Factory. Edgar dropped a Polluted Delta and ended the turn cracking it when Adam tried to tap it with his Port. Adam lacked any other plays merely passing and Porting Edgar during the upkeep after Edgar Brainstormed during the end step. An Exploration for Adam resolved as it was clear that Adam had no lands and Edgar used Wasteland to destroy his sole Rishadan Port.
Edgar cast a Ponder and kept them cracking Polluted Delta and then Verdant Catacombs to the field as Adam passed without a land. Tombstalker landed and Adam sighed. He whiffed on land again the 5/5 going into the red zone as a Tarmogoyf and then a Sylvan Library hit the board for Edgar. He had four lands and the Wasteland lock was certainly no longer good enough. Adam drew a Wasteland pitching it in order to cast Mox Diamond and then Life from the Loam. Mishra's Factory and a Port hit for Adam and he passed the turn.
Edgar used his Library to draw a pair of Force of Wills sitting on double Force as he cast Hymn to Tourach. He hit Loam and Intuition Stifling Adam's attempt to activate a chumping Mishra's Factory. Adam fell to 7 with Edgar on 12 and Adam began what might be his last turn of the game. His Life from the Loam met a Force removing Force as he tried to get back a Maze of Ith and he had to end the turn. Edgar's Sylvan dug him to a Wasteland which was enough to force through lethal damage.
