Sweet Tweets: #TaxDay
On June 19 2012 in the minutes and hours leading up to the regularly scheduled summer banned/restricted announcement by Wizards of the Coast (@WotC_Magic) Magic players eagerly awaited the news that would surely shake up the game's many formats. In particular the June 20 B&R would almost certainly shake up Standard.
Many believed that they would #BanPonder being that it would be the least offensive to the player base to get rid of since it's a common and it rotates out of Standard in the fall not to mention the fact that it had already received a ban in Modern and a restriction in Vintage. Some thought that they would #BanDelver and the blue Wild Nacatl as many have called it would make its exit from the format. And of course there's the effort to #BanSnapcaster. Magic's most ubiquitous creature would most certainly be a candidate for the chopping block and had an off chance of receiving a spot next to Jace the Mind Sculptor and Stoneforge Mystic as being illegal in Standard for being too powerful.
In Legacy the #Griselbanned movement had gained momentum over that last several weeks. Putting up impressive results in a variety of decks the 7/7 Demon received a ban in Commander (along with Sundering Titan) earlier in the week and the banhammer in Legacy looked all but assured.
But none of that happened.
In fact only one thing happened to the Banned & Restricted List: the unbanning of Land Tax.
Quite surprising to most the moratorium on the scariest one-mana enchantment this side of Fastbond was lifted and lit up a firestorm the likes of which has rarely been seen on Twitter. Opinions flew in quicker than Squadron Hawks and stauncher than a Batterskull! Here's a sampling of the initial reaction to what will surely be referred to from now on as #TaxDay:

Very exciting to see peeps willing to unban cards like Land Tax in Legacy!— Gerry Thompson (@G3RRYT) June 20 2012

Land Tax decks might be bad for me :-/— Ross (@BoltTheBird) June 20 2012
Uw miracle control with land tax and scroll rack?— Ali Aintrazi (@AliEldrazi) June 20 2012
Jonathan Medina (@mtgmedina) June 20 2012
Land Tax probably has the collateral effect of making Miracles better in Legacy thanks to synergy with Scroll Rack.Terminus just got hot.— Stephen Menendian (@SMenendian) June 20 2012
Scroll Rack is sooo expensive...has been for a while now it will be even harder. Time to talk to your EDH peeps in your LGSs!— Anthony Avitollo (@Antknee42) June 20 2012
Interesting bonus for land tax. Mox diamond gets better. As does chalice of the void.— Jon Johnson (@jjflipped) June 20 2012
If I had money I'd be buying Mox Diamonds right about now...— Chris Mascioli (@dieplstks) June 20 2012
So another good spec might be Sensei's Divining Top. Gets much better with a repeatable shuffle effect. Can be found at ~$12. Thoughts?— Nick Becvar (@Becvar) June 20 2012
Now I'm curious as to what Judge Foil Land Taxes are going to end up at.— Zak Whyte (@zakman86) June 20 2012
Hypothetical : A new Tax deck becomes Tier 1 or Tier 1.5.This Tax deck runs no Dual Lands. How much weaker is the "inacessible" argument?— James Clarke (@Fenaris) June 20 2012

Richard Feldman (@rtfeldman) June 20 2012
If you read the fine text on the Land Tax unbanning it states you can only use "The Creepy Uncle Art."— Justin Treadway (@GriffnValentine) June 20 2012
I think Land Tax is going to open up some nice new decks and let good players win more— joelniddrie (@joelniddrie) June 20 2012
So Land Tax gets unbanned and shoots up over 400% in value. I guess you'd call that the "Unbanned Tax."— Joey Pasco (@AffinityForBlue) June 20 2012
Although overshadowed by the Land Tax bombshell the release of Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 (#DotP2013) also had Twitter in a tizzy especially since the newest version is available for the iPad. Let's check out some initial opinions from our Twitter Magicians.
