SCG Open Series Preview: Orlando & Boxborough

One of the most anticipated events on the Open Series schedule is the double Standard weekend at Orlando! Read all about it, as well as the Classic in Boxborough. The Invitational is a week away!

It’s crunch time now, and the StarCityGames.com Open Series is heading into the station labeled ‘Atlanta Invitational’ in a few days! But before we get to the big station, this train is making local stops…namely, Orlando and Boxborough this weekend!

In one of the most anticipated events on the Open Series schedule so far, the StarCityGames.com Open Series in Orlando is featuring not one but two Standard Opens!

The home of the Orlando Magic and one of the most Magical places on Earth is an ideal location for the StarCityGames.com Open Series! And as we head into this home stretch, one question is on everybody’s mind: What can unseat Reanimator? Back-to-back Standard Opens and a MOCS Championship later, and there’s finally a favorite in Magic’s most popular format. Can anyone defeat the Junk menace? Come down and find out!

Our home is the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort:

Food is available, but keep in mind that we’re in a resort so prices might be a little steeper than you’re used to for Magic tournaments. Even still, you should be able to get your hands on Mickey Mouse mini-pancakes somewhere. Mmmm, Mickey Mouse mini-pancakes…

We have a brace of talented and seasoned alterists joining us at the event in Orlando!

Lindsay Burley will be selling and creating her unique brand of 3-D cards and tokens as well as custom playmats! Check out her work here: http://www.3dalters.weebly.com then stop by and check out these awesome cards! For special commissions before the event you can contact Lindsay at [email protected].

Ron Faris will be painting custom card alterations at the event! Check out his unique alters by following him on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/BlackWingAlters or his blog at http://blackwingstudio.blogspot.com/ and as always, you can e-mail him at [email protected] for commission information!

The Open Series is tops in terms of live tournament coverage, and for those duties this weekend we’re entrusting SCGLive’s soon-to-be token Cedric Phillips and current token Brad Nelson. They will be aided in the Sideboard by Event Coverage Coordinator, Above the Curve host, and possible future token Glenn Jones! If you can’t make it out to an event this weekend, be sure to catch them on @SCGLive and use the hashtag #SCGORL to join in on the discussion.

And if you’re up Boston-way, be sure to stop by the SCG Classic Series in Boxborough!

Our home base of operations in Boxborough will be Holiday Inn Boxborough.

There is a decent selection nearby, and you should have no issues finding grub in the area.

Up and coming artist, Jaclyn Foglia will be painting and selling her custom card alterations at this event! You can find her collection of work at www.alterationsandart.com and visit Facebook for more information www.facebook.com/JaclynAlters. For commissions to be available for pick up at the event, please contact Jaclyn in advance at [email protected].

And even though we’re crowning three new Standard champions, this is by no means a standard weekend for StarCityGames.com. So come on out!

Good luck, have fun, and believe in Magic!
