Video: Naya Miracles In Standard

Watch as Pro Tour Philadelphia Top 4 competitor Sam Black tries out a Standard deck that he thinks may be well positioned at #SCGNJ.

Unfortunately, Dragon’s Maze isn’t out on Magic Online yet, but the Standard season is still going strong and I’ve been off it for a while.

Today, I’m going to play a list that I found while going over Magic Online results to write my Daily Decks column on DailyMTG. I wrote about this one recently, and I think it does some interesting things. If most of what we’re getting from Dragon’s Maze is more removal and midrange creatures, this deck could be well positioned. I imagine it performing excellently against any Voice of Resurgence decks. The deck posted there was 61 cards, so I cut a Devil’s Play from the maindeck, and I’ll be playing this:

Well, that should be a good matchup generally, but the draws (and mulligans) made it particularly lopsided. I’m not sure if I’m supposed to be finding a way to bring in Sigarda there, but I don’t think I am.

Yeah, so, I have no idea what was up with that first game. I guess he was just holding lands? Either way, I think that was another pretty solid demonstration of this deck beating up on smaller midrange creature decks.

Entreat the Angels was really impressive there. Also, Huntmaster of the Fells definitely does what this deck is looking to do. Overall, I’m impressed so far.

The first hand was risky, but I still think it was a fine keep. There’s definitely an argument for shipping it since even if I draw a land I’m still not particularly fast. I’m just paying mana to make land drops, which is fine, and if I draw two it’s quite good. I’d definitely ship it on the play, but…

That game three was a weird one.

Overall, I’m pretty sure this deck is excellent against creatures. I’m sure it’s worse against control, but I think the Keyrunes add a lot there and having three Slayers’ Strongholds is huge. Also, obviously it gets to bring in extra threats over sweepers.

Thanks for watching,

Sam

I am Simic.

I don’t care that much about beating my opponent. I just want to learn and grow as a player.
