Day 1: Group Stage
Legacy Group Play
Players will be placed into four pods of four for round-robin Legacy group play. Each pod will start with one of our champions: the defending Players' Champion, followed by the three Invitational champions. The remaining twelve competitors (top three point leaders from Season One, Season Two and Season Three of the SCG Tour along with the top three point leaders on the SCG Tour Player of the Year leaderboard) will be placed randomly to fill out the four pods.
After three rounds of round-robin Legacy group play, first place from each pod moves on to the "Battle for Byes" group while fourth place in each pod moves on to the "Play to Stay" group. To decide where the other eight competitors from each pod will go, the second and third place finisher from each Legacy pod will play a Grudge Match of Modern, with the winner heading to the Battle for Byes group and the loser heading to the Play for Stay group.
"Battle for Byes" Group
After three rounds of round-robin Modern group play, first place from each Battle for Byes pod moves on with a bye into Day Two of the Players' Championship while fourth place in each pod moves on to Day Two without one. To decide where the other two competitors from each pod will go, the second and third place finisher from each Modern pod will play a Grudge Match of Standard, with the winner receiving a bye into Day Two of the Players' Championship and the loser having to start play immediately.
"Play to Stay" Group
After three rounds of round-robin Modern group play, first place from each Play to Stay pod moves on to Day Two for the Knockout Stage of the Players' Championship while fourth place in each pod is eliminated from the tournament. To decide where the other two competitors from each pod will go, the second and third place finisher from each Modern pod will play a Grudge Match of Standard, with the winner moving on to Day Two of the Players' Championship and the loser being eliminated from the tournament.
Day 2: Knockout Stage
If you're familiar with the NFL playoffs, you will be very familiar with our Sunday setup. Just replace your favorite teams with some of the SCG Tour's biggest stars and voila:
We want the finals of this event to be as memorable as possible. How do we do this? By featuring best of three match wins (with each match being best of three games). Each format (Standard, Modern, Legacy) can only be chosen once.
Instead of just choosing "play or draw"- usually a simple choice in Constructed - the higher-ranked player will have to choose to play first or to select the format of the first match! Want to play Modern? Great, but you're on the draw! Want to go first? Sure, but your opponent may begin with that Legacy matchup you're dreading!
After the first match, the player who lost can choose to be on the play or to select the next format. If the finals go to a third match, the last remaining format will be played automatically with the player who lost the second match choosing to play or draw.
