Semifinals: Alex Bertoncini vs. Tom Ross
Tom made it this far preying on the metagame with his insanely aggressive Boss Sligh deck. Would he be able to get under Alex Bertoncini, the No. 1 seed, and his Jund Monsters build or would Alex move on to the finals to battle Ben Friedman for all the glory?
Alex was stalled on lands and short on time.
Both players weren’t happy with their seven-card hands and went down to six. Alex kicked things off with a Temple of Abandon and Tom had a turn-1 Rakdos Cackler, unleashed of course. Alex missed his second land drop and Tom sent in the Cackler for 2 then played a pair of Firedrinker Satyrs.
Alex whiffed on land again and Tom put a Madcap Skills on the Cackler and bashed for 9. Alex drew a card and picked up his one permanent as they moved on to their sideboards.

Both kept seven and Alex had an Elvish Mystic on turn 1. Tom had a Firedrinker Satyr to match. Alex dropped a Scavenging Ooze on his second turn, but Tom still crashed in for 2. Alex elected not to block and Tom added an unleashed Rakdos Cackler to his board.
Alex powered out a Courser of Kruphix, but again missed on his land drop similar to Game 1. Tom had a Legion Loyalist and an Akroan Crusader and sent his team into the red zone. Alex tanked on blocking options until deciding on putting Courser in front of the Cackler and the Ooze in front of the Loyalist. Tom had double Rubblebelt Maaka on both blocked creatures to kill off both and Alex fell to 12, while Tom kept his entire board.
Alex drew the Ooze from the top of his deck, got in for one with his elf then killed everything but the Cackler with his Golgari Charm. Tom hit for 2 and played another Cackler and an Akroan Crusader. Alex dropped his new Ooze and passed. Tom used a Titan’s Strength on a Crusader to get a token and sent his team into the red one to drop Alex to 5 after he traded his Ooze with a Cackler.
Alex drew a card and scooped up his board facing an uphill battle.

Tom keeps his foot on the gas.
Alex kept his seven and Tom went to Paris this time. Alex started off with a Temple of Abandon and Tom got out of the gates with a Rakdos Cackler. Alex shocked himself with a Blood Crypt to land a Sylvan Caryatid and passed. Tom put Madcap Skills on his Cackler and bashed for five and Alex went to 13. Alex had a Dreadbore for the Cackler and played a tapped Overgrown Tomb, Tom played an Akroan Crusader and passed. Alex played an Elvish Mystic and shipped the turn with open mana.
Tom slammed another Madcap Skills on the Crusader and sent his creatures into the red zone. Alex blocked with both to trade off and took one from the token. Alex played a land and passed with no play to the board. Tom crashed in with a newly played Ash Zealot and the token to knock Alex to 9.
