Semifinals: Vidianto Wijaya vs. Chris Juliano
A trip to the finals is on the line and the winner gets to face Caleb Scherer and Abzan Aggro. Would Vidianto and Esper Dragons advance or would Chris show the power of R/B Dragons?
Vidianto decides on his next play.
Chris started out first to the board with Zurgo+Bellstriker that got in for two on the second turn and was followed by a Hangarback+Walker that ran into Silumgar's Scorn. Vidianto helped out Justin's cause with Painful+Truths for three. Chris turned Zurgo sideways and passed after playing a Polluted+Delta. Zurgo kept beating, dropping Vidianto to 9 while Chris simply added another Mountain to his side.
Vidianto finally made a play, dropping Dragonlord+Ojutai to hold off the 2/2. Chris fetched up a couple copies of Smoldering+Marsh and played Thunderbreak+Regent. Vidianto added an Island to his board and passed, sitting on six open lands. Chris sent the Regent into the red zone and Vidianto accepted the trade with Ojutai before using Dig+Through+Time on the end step and killing the Zurgo with Ultimate+Price. With Vidianto's shields down, Chris used Kologhan's Command to shock Vidianto and returned Thunderbreak+Regent to his hand.
Vidianto looked for options and decided to go to 4 off another Painful+Truths. Chris was able to drop Vidianto to 2 with a Wild+Slash before Vidianto discarded to hand size. Both players settled into draw-go until Vidianto looked to gain four life off a Foul-Tongue+Invocation with no creatures on the opposing side of the table. Chris tried to burn him out with Kologhan's Command in response, but Vidianto had Scatter+to+the+Winds to go up to 6 after revealing Dragonlord+Silumgar. Vidianto untapped and decided on playing Ugin%2C+the+Spirit+Dragon and hitting Chris for three.
Chris knocked Vidianto to 4 off Flamewake+Phoenix and passed the turn back. Vidianto started his next turn with Duress, taking Draconic+Roar, and used Ugin to kill the Phoenix before Digging Through Time. Chris dashed Kologhan, the Storm's Fury, but Vidianto had another Foul-Tongue+Invocation to deal with the dragon and gain more life. With the coast clear, Vidianto used Ugin's ultimate to gain 10 life and put Jace, Vryn's Prodigy and Dragonlord+Silumgar in play, along with playing Duress to take Draconic+Roar. Vidianto finished his turn with an attack from Shambling+Vent.
Chris used a Murderous+Cut on the Jace and attempted a second Cut, but Vidianto stopped it with Silumgar's Scorn. Chris tried to resolve the Thunderbreak+Regent, but it also fell to Silumgar's Scorn. Vidianto attacked with Dragonlord+Silumgar and played Ojutai. Chris looked at his next draw and made a move to his sideboard.

Chris again opened with Zurgo, this time on the play, and added Monastery+Swiftspear to his side to attack for three on the second turn. Vidianto used Duress on his second turn to get rid of Self-Inflicted+Wound and left Chris with three lands. Chris drew his card and attacked for three more before dropping a Smoldering+Marsh to his board and passing.
Vidianto played a land and passed so Chris attacked him down to 11 after playing his fourth land and passing back. Vidianto untapped and fetched down to 9 and cleaned the board with Languish. Chris used the opportunity to dash in Kologhan, the Storm's Fury and hit for four. Chris tired again on his next turn, but after Kologhan entered the battlefield, Vidianto did away with it thanks to Foul-Tongue+Invocation, revealing his own dragon. Vidianto went to 4 off Painful+Truths and passed the turn.
Chris looked to land Hangarback+Walker for two, but it got Scattered to the Winds and allowed Vidianto to attack with Shambling+Vent on his next turn. Chris deployed another Hangarback+Walker, this time for three, but Vidianto had Silumgar's Scorn to keep the opposing battlefield clear. Vidianto sent in the Vent again and slowly climbed out of burn range. Vidianto finished his turn by fetching down to 7 and playing Dig+Through+Time.
Chris got in for two with Flamewake+Phoenix but had to pass back, knowing Dragonlord+Silumgar was in his opponent's hand. Vidianto immediately untapped and played the Dragonlord, taking the Phoenix, and passed the turn. Chris dashed Kologhan but Vidianto continued to have all the answers, this time using another Invocation, gaining even more life. Vidianto attacked with Silumgar, the Phoenix, and Shambling+Vent, before adding Jace to his board and passing. Chris went for Kologhan's Command to shoot Jace and rebuy Kologhan, but Vidianto responded with Dig+Through+Time before letting it resolve. Chris moved to his second main phase to play a Phoenix to buy himself another turn, but Vidianto had Silumgar's Scorn and took the game on his next attack
Vidianto 2, Chris 0
Chris had Zurgo on his first turn for the third time but no Turn-2 threat as he accepted getting in for two. Vidianto played Duress to get rid of Chris' Kologhan's Command and saw another Zurgo, Kologhan, and a couple lands remaining. Chris stuck with attacking for two and played a land as Vidianto passed back after making his third land drop.
Zurgo got in for his eighth point of damage, but Chris again had no other action as Vidianto fetched a Prairie+Stream and dealt with the 2/2 with Foul-Tongue+Invocation. Chris dashed in his backup Zurgo and played Monastery+Swiftspear to attack for three. Vidianto played Dig+Through+Time at the end step before Zurgo returned to Chris' hand.
Vidianto found his fifth land and tapped out for Dragonlord+Ojutai. Chris dashed Kologhan and Vidianto traded his Dragonlord for it. Chris finished his turn by playing the previously dashed Zurgo. Vidianto wasted no time clearing the board with Languish on the next turn, but Chris answered back with Flamewake+Phoenix and Hangarback+Walker for one. Vidianto played Dragonlord+Ojutai to clog the air, but Chris dashed another Kologhan and attacked with his team. Vidianto once again traded Ojutai for Kologhan and fell to 4 after the attack.
Vidianto deployed a one-mana Tasigur and braced for the next attack. Chris sent the Phoenix into the red zone, but Vidianto stopped it with Ultimate+Price. Chris added a counter to his Hangarback+Walker and shipped the turn. Chris tried to land a replacement Phoenix, but Vidianto had Silumgar's Scorn, revealing Silumgar himself, to counter the flyer. Vidianto untapped and played the Dragonlord to take the Walker, but Chris responded by ticking it up and killing it with Draconic+Roar to get three Thopters.

Chris is bringing the beats in this matchup.
Chris took a mulligan to six and opened with a Smoldering+Marsh so his Zurgo had to wait until the second turn as Vidianto developed his mana. Vidianto used Duress on his third turn to take Self-Inflicted+Wound. Chris played Flamewake+Phoenix and attacked with his team, but Vidianto made Zurgo pay the Ultimate+Price. Vidianto took two more from the flyer after adding a Swamp to his board and passing. Chris tried a post-combat Hangarback+Walker, but Vidianto had the Silumgar's Scorn, revealing Dragonlord+Ojutai.
Vidianto hit his fifth land and slammed Ojutai as Flamewake+Phoenix was forced to run headfirst into it. Chris deployed Thunderbreak+Regent and ended his turn. Vidianto attacked with his Dragonlord and even the game at 14, played Jace, Vryn's Prodigy, and passed. Chris went to combat and brought back the Phoenix to hit for six and opted to end his turn. Vidianto flipped Jace, pitching Painful+Truths, and targeted the Phoenix with the +1 ability.
Chris played Scab-Clan+Berserker and Vidianto responded with Dig+Through+Time so Chris countered it with Negate. Chris attacked Vidianto with his team so Vidianto traded his Dragonlord with the Regent and fell to 6. Vidianto targeted the Berserker with Jace and played Dragonlord+Ojutai. Chris dashed in Zurgo and sent his team at Vidianto once again. Vidianto put his Dragonlord on the Berserker to take 4 and Chris flashed Exquisite+Firecraft to force a fifth game.
Vidianto 2, Chris 2
Both players kept their openers in the deciding game and Vidianto led with Polluted+Delta while Chris got in for one with Monastery+Swiftspear. Vidianto fired off Duress on his second turn, getting rid of Exquisite+Firecraft. Chris jammed another Swiftspear and attacked for two before playing Sunken+Hollow and passing the turn. Vidianto did find a road block on his third turn, in the form of a three-mana Tasigur%2C+the+Golden+Fang.
Chris studied the board, but couldn’t attack, settling for a land drop and passing. Vidianto was happy with this pace of play and did the same, holding back Tasigur. Chris stayed back once again, allowing Vidianto to activate Tasigur, getting a Painful+Truths out of the deal. Vidianto fetched down to 12 on his next turn and dropped Dragonlord+Ojutai. Chris couldn’t get past the road block and had to stay back as he played another land.
Vidianto attempted a Duress, but Chris had the Negate to hide his hand, so Vidianto attacked with Ojutai. Chris dashed Zurgo and attacked with his team. Vidianto put Tasigur in front of a Swiftspear and pointed an Ultimate+Price at the Zurgo. Chris sent a Wild+Slash at Vidianto, so Vidianto responded with a Murderous+Cut on the unblocked Swiftspear and fell to 10, eating the other Swiftspear. Vidianto attacked with his team as soon as he could untap and targeted Chris with Duress, only to see tow lands.
