Deck Tech: Zombies with Sam Black
The fevered innovation led Bloodghast and Lingering+Souls seemed pretty sweet,” he said as he explained the inception of his idea. “I’m 4-0 against Esper Stoneblade today because the deck is just so good against them.”
It’s an easy thing to believe if you look at the way Sam set up his deck. Between a huge suite of discard spells and a bunch of recurring creatures that can be used as machine gun fodder in the Mortarpod upgrade of Goblin+Bombardment, Esper Stoneblade is stuck playing a losing game of attrition against Sam’s deck. It’s pretty unfair when Sam can play a full game with just two lands, including “Swamp with a drawback” Undiscovered+Paradise not letting him get past the mark in some games.
Faithless+Looting lets Sam get ridiculous value out of his Bloodghasts, Gravecrawlers, Rotting+Rats (it’s a zombie) and Lingering+Souls, forcing the opponent to find ways to deal with all of them while Sam applies pressure from other angles.
It’s been fun to watch Sam do work with his new deck today, leaving a trail of victims in his wake as he climbs to the top of the standings. Take a look and let us know what you think!
