Finals: Ben Glancy vs. Nick Malatesta
We’ve seen the power of Treasure Cruise in Delver decks, but Ben was out to prove its power in Deathblade as well. Standing between him and a trophy was Nick Malatesta, who hoped to earn a championship with Combo Elves.
Ben's Umezawa's Jitte does work.
Nick: “Good starting seven… one of everything!”
After some deliberation, Ben sniped the Birchlore Ranger, and Nick went with Quirion Ranger as his one-drop of choice. Ben fired off a Ponder on his next turn, finding his second land, a Tundra, then shipped back. Nick added Heritage Druid to his board, then paused before attacking with his Quirion Ranger and passing the turn. He had checked his explosiveness, and Ben proved his suspicions correct, as he used an end step Swords to Plowshares to send the Heritage Druid farming, then untapped and cast Lilliana of the Veil, ticking down to leave Nick with just two lands in play.
Gaea’s Cradle from Nick allowed him to begin rebuilding, as he cast Nettle Sentinel and then Elvish Visionary. Ben reloaded on his own turn with a Treasure Cruise, then ticked up Liliana and cast Stoneforge Mystic, retrieving Umezawa’s Jitte. Nick untapped and attempted a Natural Order, sacrificing the Elvish Visionary, but Ben put a stop to that plan with Force of Will pitching Spell Pierce. Nick attacked away the Liliana with Nettle Sentinel, but he was defenseless as Ben played Umezawa’s Jitte, equipped it to his Stoneforge Mystic, and came swinging, gaining 2 counters and immediately using them kill off the Nettle Sentinel and again leave Nick without a creature.
Nick found Elvish Visionary on his next turn, and Green Sun’s Zenithed for another on the turn after, but Ben was quick to kill off each elf immediately with his Umezawa’s Jitte, and he kept on accumulating counters with each swing. Nick’s next attempt, a Green Sun’s Zenith for 3 to find an answer to the equipment, ran into Spell Pierce, and Ben cashed in all his Jitte counters on the next turn to attack for 11 and close things out.

Nick Malatesta, Elfless.
Ben had the first play of the game, a turn 1 Deathrite Shaman, while Nick fetched up Dryad Arbor at his end step then played Gaea’s Cradle into Elvish Visionary. Ben fired off a Thoughtseize, seeing a spell-heavy hand of Reclamation Sage, Natural Order, Green Sun’s Zenith, and a pair of Glimpse of Natures. He got rid of the Natural Order, then immediately used another to get rid of the Green Sun’s Zenith.
Nick had no play on his own turn other than to poke for 1 with his Elvish Visionary, and Ben took another look at his hand during his next draw step with a Vendilion Clique. This one saw Craterhoof Behemoth and Abrupt Decay as the new cards in Nick’s hand, and Ben told him to keep them. The Clique began knocking away Nick’s life in 3 points chunks. Nick found a Wooded Foothills in his next draw step, which could fetch Bayou and allow him to cast his Abrupt Decay. Ben played Meddling Mage, which named Glimpse of Nature, and Nick was quick to use that Abrupt Decay to get it off the board.
Ben hit his fifth land drop and tapped out for Batterskull, threatening to swing for the win on the next turn. Nick found his third land and tried for a Reclamation Sage, but Force of Will from Ben left Nick without an out, and he extended the hand in defeat.
