Finals: Craig Bargo vs. Per Nyström
Per has pulled the upset in each round of the Top 8 as the No. 8 seed with Death and Taxes. Can he do it one last time or will Craig take down #SCGCIN with RUG Delver?
Craig goes over Per’s decklist before Game 2.
Craig kept his opener while Per decided to go down to six. Craig started the finals off with a Gitaxian Probe to take a look at Per’s hand then played a Delver of Secrets off a Tropical Island. Per had a Plains and passed while Craig’s Delver failed to flip but still got into the red zone. Craig finished his turn by adding a Nimble Mongoose to the board. Per went for a Stoneforge Mystic but Craig had a Spell Snare. Daze flipped the Delver and Craig attacked with his team then added a Tarmogoyf to his board.
Per went for his second SFM, but Craig used a Force of Will, pitching Daze, to counter it. Craig Pondered to start his next turn then used a Wasteland to get rid of Per’s Horizon Canopy and Brainstormed and cracked a fetch land for a Volcanic Island and attacked for 10 to drop Per to 5. Per drew for his turn and picked up his cards.

This time Per kept seven while Craig went down to six. Per led things off with a Plains and an Aether Vial while Craig decided to Ponder off a Volcanic Island. Per used a Wasteland on the Volcanic and passed back. Craig dropped a fetch land as Per upped his Vial. Per added another Plains and passed back. Craig dropped a Tropical Island and played a Delver of Secrets and Per Vialed in a Stoneforge Mystic at the end of the turn and tutored up a Batterskull. Craig fetched a Volcanic Island and used a Lightning Bolt on the SFM.
Per played Rest in Peace and passed back. Craig Brainstormed in his upkeep to set up his Delver to flip and revealed a Ponder to do so. Craig attacked with the flyer and Per tried to use his Vial but Craig Stifled it and got in for three. Per tried to play a Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, but Craig had the Spell Snare. Craig Pondered and attacked with his 3/2 and Per Vialed in a Serra Avenger, but Craig killed it with a Lightning Bolt before blocks and Per fell to 14. Per played a Flickerwisp to reset the Delver, but it flipped when Craig revealed a Stifle on his next upkeep. Craig passed without attacking after drawing the Stifle.
Per played a Mother of Runes and passed back and Craig used a Krosan Grip at the end of the turn to destroy the Rest in Peace. Craig attacked Per down to 11 with the flyer and played another Delver of Secrets. Per played his Batterskull, but Craig used his Stifle to prevent the Germ token from coming into play. Craig drew and played a Grim Lavamancer and passed without attacking.
Per found an Umezawa’s Jitte and equipped the Flickerwisp and attacked Craig to 14 and then used it to kill the Lavamancer and unflipped Delver. Craig attacked Per down to 7 with his flyer and passed back. Per attacked with his Flickerwisp to drop Craig to 11 and then went to 6 to equip the Batterskull to the Flickerwisp post-combat. Craig Brainstormed and after thinking for a while scooped up his cards.

Both kept seven for the first time this match and Craig led things off with a turn-1 Grim Lavamancer while Per had an Aether Vial off a Rishadan Port. Craig got in for one with the Lavamancer then played a Tarmogoyf. Per resolved a Rest in Peace and passed the turn. Craig Brainstormed then used a fetch land to clear the top of his deck and get another Tropical Island. Craig followed it up with a Ponder and attacked Per down to 18 with the Lavamancer and Per Vialed in a Mother of Runes at the end of the turn, but Craig had a Lightning Bolt for her.
Per Vialed in a Thalia with Craig tapped out then used a Wasteland to destroy Craig’s Volcanic Island then passed the turn. Craig destroyed Per’s Karakas with a Wasteland of his own then played a Delver of Secrets with his other Tropical Island tapped down from a Port. Per attacked with his Thalia and Craig put the Tarmogoyf in front and ended his turn by dropping a Plains and a Mother of Runes. Craig flipped his Delver with a Rough/Tumble and attacked for four and Per Vialed in SFM getting a Batterskull at the end step.
Per attacked Craig down to 15 with his Thalia and passed back. Craig hit Per for three more with the flyer and passed as Per put Batterskull into play with SFM. Per attacked with the Germ and Thalia to knock Craig to 9 and brough Per up to 15. Per then used a Sunlance on the flyer and passed back. Craig had no play and passed Per sent everything but mom into the red zone and dropped Craig to 6. Per continued to lock down Craig’s land and he extended the hand after drawing for the turn.
