Finals: Ian Ellis vs. Bennett Snyder
Ian's looking for his second trophy to sit next to his Standard Open one on the mantle, while Bennett is an upstart looking to clinch another win on behalf of RUG Delver!
Ian, ever dignified at the table.
Turn 1 Forest, Mox Diamond, and ship from Ian, while Bennett fetched for Tropical Island and cast Delver of Secrets. Ian had Thoughtseize on turn 2 to discard a second Delver from Bennett's hand, but wasn't happy to see Bennett flip off Stifle on the next turn, taking 3 damage.
Ian cast Green Sun's Zenith for one on turn 3 and put Birds of Paradise into play, but he lost that to Lightning Bolt at the end of his turn, still stuck on two mana. Bennett attacked Ian to 12 and cast Tarmogoyf, leaving a fetchland untapped as he shipped the turn back over.
Horizon Canopy for Ian gave him the mana to cast Knight of the Reliquary, but Bennett responded by fetching and casting Thought Scour, hoping to hit Daze. He whiffed, and the Knight resolved. Bennett Wastelanded Horizon Canopy and then attacked for 7 with his 4/5 Tarmogoyf and the Aberration, leaving Ian on 4 life. Another Delver for Bennett, and he passed.
Ian cast Stoneforge Mystic, trying to bait the Stifle, and succeeding—Bennett Stifled the Mystic trigger rather than the Knight's search on his own turn. Bennett attacked with Insectile Aberration, but Ian's Maze of Ith deterred the bug. Wasteland destroyed the Maze afterward, and Bennett added Tarmogoyf to the board.
Drawing and passing, Ian had a tenuous defense in place with Swords to Plowshares for one Aberration once Bennett flipped another. He attacked with everything, leaving Ian on Knight and Mox Diamond with one life... then he played another Delver of Secrets.
Facing three creatures in this position, Ian tossed in the towel after his next draw step.

Fetching Forest and playing Birds of Paradise, Ian shipped turn to Bennett. Volcanic Island and Delver of Secrets came down for Bennett's starting turn, and Submerge on the Birds of Paradise bought him some time. Ian dropped Karakas and quickly used Swords to Plowshares on the Delver before recasting his Birds.
Wasteland took care of the Karakas after a Brainstorm, but Ian played Sylvan Library and quickly passed back. Bennett cast Delver of Secrets and passed, nodding as Ian cast Mox Diamond and then Pulsed the Delver of Secrets, on 15 life. Bennett drew and quickly passed the turn, then Ian landed his biggest man—Knight of the Reliquary.
Another Knight for Ian resolved, and he immediately sacrificed his Forest to keep himself safe from Submerge! Fetching Wasteland, he took Bennett's Volcanic Island off the table to lock him all the way out, and Bennett conceded the game.
Bennett's first Open Series weekend has gone pretty well!

Turn 1 Misty Rainforest but no Delver for Bennett, while Ian played Forest and then cast Mox Diamond, pitching Canopy. He resolved Sylvan Library on turn 1, and sent the turn to Bennett. Scalding Tarn for his standard pair of duals gave Bennett Tarmogoyf on turn 2. Ian used his Sylvan to just keep one card, and Wastelanded Tropical Island before using Swords to Plowshares on the Tarmogoyf.
Bennett started with Brainstorm on the next turn and played Wasteland, passing afterward. Ian's Library continued to reap advantage, and Ian landed Savannah followed by Scavenging Ooze on the next turn. Bennett just passed, stuck.
Ian cast Stoneforge Mystic on the next turn, losing Scavenging Ooze to Submerge as his Stoneforge found Batterskull, missing out on an attack for 2 damage. He did fetch Batterskull, and passed afterward. Bennett again passed the turn, and Ian lost 4 life to Sylvan Library. He followed by recasting the Scavenging Ooze, losing it to Spell Snare, and then dropped Batterskull into play now that Stifle was out of the picture.
Bennett Brainstormed and played Volcanic Island, lacking green mana to play his creatures. Ian cast Dark Confidant on the next turn, binning it to Spell Snare from Bennett, and he decided to attack with both Knight and Mystic, leaving Bennett on 13. He drew, played Delver of Secrets, and promptly lost it to Swords of Plowshares.
Another attack for 5 left Bennett on 9, and Ian passed the turn. His next Brainstorm missed a green source once again, and Bennett was clearly deflated. Ian's second Knight of the Reliquary wrapped up the game.
