Finals: Marc Konig vs. Joe Lossett
Both players are celebrated Legacy streamers on Magic Online, but this was the first time they had faced off in the physical realm. Would it be Bahra_ or Oarsman79 who hoists the Legacy Open trophy?
Both players opened up the game with their power one-drop artifacts of choice—Marc with an Aether Vial, and Joe with a Sensei’s Divining Top. Marc got the pressure started on his second turn with a Stoneforge Mystic retrieving a Sword of Fire and Ice. Marc wasted no time sticking it into play with the Stoneforge Mystic on his next turn, playing around any potential shenanigans from Vendilion Clique.
Joe spun his Sensei’s Divining Top, looking for an answer. He passed the turn with a single white mana open, and Marc moved the Sword of Fire and Ice onto his Stoneforge Mystic and came crashing in. Joe tapped his Top and drew and revealed a terminus, but Marc had a trick up his sleeve: He Vialed in Thalia, Guardian of Thraben in response to the Miracle trigger. Joe didn’t have enough untapped to pay for 1W, and the Terminus went straight to his hand. He took five damage and fell to 13.
Joe used a Karakas on his own turn to bounce the Thalia back to Marc’s hand, then cast Brainstorm to set the Terminus back on top of his library. Marc got in another hit with the Stoneforge Mystic, dropping Joe to 8. He shipped it back to Joe, who was able to get the When Marc moved to attack on his own turn, Joe was able to use his replayed Sensei’s Divining Top to cast the Terminus properly this time. After another turn cycle passed, Marc attempted to activate his Aether Vial on 3 at Joe’s end step. Joe cracked a fetchland going to 7, and responded with a Vendilion Clique.
Marc: “I have two Flickerwisps!”
Marc revealed his hand, which did in fact contain two different lethal attackers. Joe could only send away one of the 3/1s, leaving the other to enter play, pick up Sword of Fire and Ice, and come crashing in for 5 damage, dealing the remaining 2 with the Sword of Fire and Ice trigger.

Marc opened up with a Mother of Runes, and followed it up with a Stoneforge Mystic on the second turn retrieving Sword of Fire and Ice. Joe, for his part, simply made his land drops and passed back to Marc, who again snuck the Sword of Fire and Ice into play immediately on his third turn, casting an Aether Vial as well before shipping back. Joe used a Brainstorm at Marc’s end step, then miracled a Terminus to stabilize the board.
Marc began ticking up his Aether Vial, and used Rishadan Port in the meantime to mess with Joe’s manabase. Joe cast a Pithing Needle to shut off the Sword of Fire and Ice before Marc could find a creature to equip it to. Marc ticked his Vial up to 2, and added another to his board. He passed back to Joe and Ported one of Joe’s lands, but Joe made his sixth land drop and was able to tap out for Baneslayer Angel.
Marc had no two drop to Vial into play at Joe’s end step, and ticked the vials up to 1 and 3. He cast a Stoneforge Mystic but declined to use its ability, and passed the turn back. He took a hit from the Baneslayer, falling to 15, and Joe added Jace, the Mind Sculptor to his board, using the Brainstorm ability. Marc showed him Brimaz, King of Oreskos at end step, and he untapped and attacked into the Jace, killing it off and dealing an additional one to Joe thanks to Brimaz’s Cat Soldier friend. He used the Stoneforge Mystic to put a Batterskull into play and passed back.
This time Joe chose to leave the Baneslayer Angel back on defense, and played a second Jace, the Mind Sculptor, bouncing Marc’s Germ token. Marc untapped and tapped out to move the Batterskull onto his Brimaz and attacked into the Jace with a 7/8 lifelinker. Joe, after some deliberation, chose to block one of the Cat Soldiers with his Baneslayer Angel, going up to 30 but losing his Jace. Marc passed to Joe, who immediately slammed Entreat the Angels onto the play mat from the top of his library, adding four 4/4 Angels to the battlefield.
Without profitable attacks, Marc simply passed the turn right back, and Joe came crashing in with his Baneslayer Angel and three of his four Angels, dropping Marc to 12. Marc revealed his plan at end step, however, as he put Mirran Crusader into play off of Aether Vial at end step, and then untapped and moved Batterskull onto it, gave it protection from White with Mother of Runes, and came swinging, gaining 12 life and going back up to 24.
Now Joe was in a tough spot. He could only crack back for 21, but would be dead to the swingback of he did. He chose to attack only with his Baneslayer Angel , going back up to 13, and passed back. Marc simply made the same attack from his previous turn, threatening to kill off Joe on his next turn. Joe checked his top card, saw no help, and picked up his cards.
