Finals: Todd Anderson vs. Chas Hinkle
Chas struggled for Sneak Attacks in game 1.
Todd started Creeping Tar Pit while Chas fetched into Island and played Ponder, the top three cards staying put. Todd’s turn 2 gave him Thoughtseize, but Chas cast Misdirection exiling Intuition. Todd paid 2 life to discard his own Deathrite Shaman, revealing a pair of Brainstorms. Chas added a fetchland to his board, and passed.
Drawing for turn, Todd Brainstormed into a few stinkers and no fetchland—but he did draw Karakas. That would buy him some time at a minimum. Chas fetched Volcanic Island, then played City of Traitors and jammed Sneak Attack. Todd Forced, removing Brainstorm, and let out a sigh of relief when Chas confirmed his enchantment was countered.
Chas began to rebuild using Brainstorm, and sacrificed his City of Traitors to play a fetchland for the shuffle. Todd drew and shipped turn back, jealous of Chas and his shuffling post-Brainstorm. Todd fetched up Underground Sea to make it to five lands, activating Creeping Tar Pit and attacking Chas to 14.
That became 11 on the next turn, with Chas casting Brainstorm after Todd passed. Stoneforge Mystic dug up Umezawa’s Jitte for Todd on the next turn after Tarpit reduced Chas to 8 life before a fetch made it 7. In two turns, that would be zero—Chas had to put together the win. He had seven mana available, but ended the turn...
“I have no clue how I am even possibly winning,” Todd admitted as he swung with Creeping Tar Pit. Chas went into action on his own turn, fetching and falling to 3 life... before conceding.

Chas kept his hand and began with Misty Rainforest, while Todd played Underground Sea and ended the turn with no discard spell and no Deathrite Shaman. Chas played his own Karakas and passed before Todd popped Brainstorm in the end step. He played Tundra and then Stoneforge Mystic, peeling Batterskull off the top of his deck and shuffling the rest.
Chas fetched Island on turn 3, then cast Show and Tell to put Griselbrand into play, while Todd used Vendilion Clique on himself. “This is not looking good,” he admitted. Thoughtseize revealed that Chas had access to a Sneak Attack and a Force already, but Todd relieved him of the Force. Chas used Karakas to bounce the Clique in the end step.

A quick mulligan for Todd, while Chas kept his seven. Todd played Flooded Strand and shipped turn, with Chas leading a Mountain—odd to be sure. Todd tapped out on turn 2 for Dark Confidant, hoping to undo his mulligan.
Chas played City of Traitors and Lotus Petal, giving him the four mana he needed for Sneak Attack. Casting the enchantment, he waited for a response from Todd—there was none. Once it was in play, Chas ended the turn. Todd had Disenchant for the Sneak, which Chas Forced... but Todd Force back, followed by a Wasteland on City of Traitors!
Suddenly behind, Chas played Island and ended the turn while Todd began to get to work, adding Geist of Saint Traft to his Dark Confidant. Chas played a land and ended the turn, Todd whaling in for 8 damage and leaving Chas on 7 life. Todd tapped out for Jace, the Mind Sculptor and brainstormed, hoping for a Force to virtually lock it up—he didn’t find one.
Chas drew... and conceded.
