Finals: Tom Ross vs. Reid Duke
Reid deep in the tank.
Tom kicked things off with a Glistener Elf on the play, while Reid, on a mulligan to six, had a Flooded Strand. Tom used a Green Sun’s Zenith for a Noble Hierarch and attacked with the Elf for 2 poison. Reid fetched for a Tundra at the end step and Brainstormed. Reid got a miracle Terminus off the top to clean the board and played a Scalding Tarn before passing.
Tom paid two life to see Reid’s hand with a Gitaxian Probe seeing a Force of Will and Supreme Verdict along with a Brainstorm and some lands. Tom decided to Brainstorm and passed after not finding a third land. Reid fetched up a Volcanic Island at the end step, untapped and played a Flooded Strand.
Tom played another Glistener Elf and passed while Reid just played a Plains. Tom attacked with his Elf and the Nexus and after no blocks Reid used a Swords to Plowshares on the Nexus, but Tom used Force of Will, pitching, Blighted Agent. Reid Brainstormed in response and used his Force of Will, pitching Supreme Verdict to keep the Nexus off the table. Reid did go to 3 poison after the Elf attack. Reid untapped and blind flipped a Terminus to get rid of the Elf and slammed a Sensei’s Divining Top.
Tom ran out another Elf and passed, still missing another land. Reid played Council’s Judgment and Tom lost his other Elf. Tom untapped and found a Tropical Island and played a Blighted Agent that resolved after Reid topped in response. Reid played Jace, the Mind Sculptor and bounced the Agent and passed back. Tom ran out the Agent again and Reid topped. Reid bounced the Agent with Jace again and passed back.
Tom started his next turn by playing Brainstorm and dropped a Savannah onto his board, which he tapped to play Noble Hierarch. Reid made two angels with Entreat the Angels as a miracle at the end of turn and attacked with one of them after playing his Top and Fate Sealing Tom. Tom ran out his Agent and passed back. Reid tried to bounce the Agent with Jace so Tom responded by playing Vines of Vastwood on it, but Reid had a Spell Pierce. After the Pierce resolved Tom went for another Vines, but Reid had the Counterspell for it, sending the Agent back to Tom’s hand. Reid topped and ended his turn by attacking with one angel, knocking Tom to 10.
Tom replayed the Agent again and passed back. Reid again tried to bounce the Agent with Jace so Tom used a third Vines of Vastwood on it in response, which resolved and kept the Agent on the board. Reid knocked Tom to 2 with both Angels and passed. Tom sent the Agent at Jace, killing it, then played a Verdant Catacombs and a Viridian Corrupter. Reid topped in response to the creature, activated it and miracled out another Angel. With that, Tom picked up his cards.

Tom was good with his seven and Reid went down to six for the second time. Tom had the same start as last game with a Glistener Elf off a Tropical Island while Reid had the Flooded Strand. Tom played a Mistry Rainforest and got in for 1 poison and shipped the turn while Reid just added an Island to his board. Tom played Wasteland and sent the Elf into the red zone. Tom shipped the turn after the attack and Reid played another fetch land and passed.
Tom continued to send in for 1 and Reid offered no action so Tom added a Verdant Catacombs to his board and passed. Reid played another turn of land-go with an Island. Tom attacked again and passed after playing Inkmoth Nexus. Reid finally made a play, Brainstorming at the end step then cracking a Flooded Strand for a Plains and went for a Swords to Plowshares on the Elf, which Tom quickly accepted. Reid fetched a Volcanic Island after drawing his card and went for Blood Moon after playing a Tundra. Tom fetched in response getting a Forest and a Tropical Island then used a Spell Pierce. After Reid paid the two Tom went for a Daze, Reid went for a Force of Will, pitching Spell Pierce, so Tom responded by using the Wasteland on the Volcanic Island and let the Moon resolve.
Tom untapped and used Krosan Grip on the Moon and played a Noble Hierarch. Reid just drew a card and passed. Tom fired up his Nexus and attacked so Reid attempted to flash in a Vendilion Clique, but Tom used a Force of Will, pitching another Force, but Reid had another Force himself, so after it resolved Tom used Invigorate on the Nexus and killed off the Clique. Reid untapped and used Council’s Judgment on the Hierarch. Tom got in for 1 with the Nexus and played an Elf. Reid played a Karakas and passed.
Tom put Reid to 7 poison and passed and Reid shipped the turn after drawing. Tom wanted to see the card, so he Probed, then Probed again to dig deeper and drew a card then got in for 2 more poison. Reid drew and passed. Tom fired up two copies of Inkmoth Nexus and attacked with them and the Elf to take the second game.

Both were on seven this time and Reid led with an Arid Mesa and Tom a Tropical Island. After Reid played an Island and passed, Tom Brainstormed at the end step. Tom played a Noble Hierarch then ended his turn by playing a Mistry Rainforest. Reid fetched an Island with a Scalding Tarn and passed. Tom fetched a Tropical Island in his upkeep then played an Inkmoth Nexus and a Sylvan Library, but Reid decided to use Force of Will on it, pitching another Force. Tom Pondered with the Hierarch and shipped the turn.
Reid ran out a Counterbalance and Tom went for a Spell Pierce so Reid cracked two fetches for a Plains and a Volcanic Island, and the Counterbalance resolved. Tom activated the Nexus and played an Invigorate for free (giving Reid 3 life) and when Counterbalance revealed a Sensei’s Divining Top, he did it again and attacked for the win with Hierarch on board giving the exalted bonus.

Reid sent his seven back quickly while Tom was happy with his. After Reid was content with his six he started with a Flooded Strand. Tom opted for a Noble Hierarch off a Tropical Island while Reid played another fetch land and passed. Tom played a Glistener Elf and an Inkmoth Nexus for his second turn and passed. Reid fetched a Plains at the end step to send a Swords at the Elf, which sent it farming for good. Reid played an Island and Tom Brainstormed at the end of the turn.
Tom played another Nexus and animated the first to attack for 2 poison then Pondered and immediately shuffled away the three cards for a fresh one off the top. Reid fetched a Volcanic Island at the end of the turn and played Vendilion Clique to see Tom’s hand consisting of Krosan Grip, Berserk, Spell Pierce, Noble Hierarch, and Vines of Vastwood. Reid decided to get rid of the Spell Pierce so Tom drew a fresh card to replace it.
Reid went for Jace, the Mind Sculptor and tried to bounce the Hierarch, but Tom Vines it. Tom used a Probe to see Reid had no defense, attacked with Nexus, cast Invigorate and Berserk to kill Reid out of nowhere.
