Finals: Trevor Humphries vs. Dylan Murphy
Dylan Murphy has been riding the Mono-Red aggression all the way to the finals. Would it carry him one match further, or would Trevor make it back-to-back Open Series trophies for the Jeskai Way?
Dylan stokes the flames.
Firedrinker Satyr got the party started immediately for Dylan, while Trevor quickly got on board with a turn 2 Seeker of the Way. Dylan added Frenzied Goblin to his board and attacked for 2, but didn’t have a second land. Trevor wasted no time getting in with his Seeker, using a Jeskai Charm in “4 damage” mode to trigger the lifegain. Dylan had Foundry Street Denizen next, and another attack, dropping Trevor to 18, but was still without a land.
Trevor went for the same play a second time, attacking with Seeker of the Way and using Jeskai Charm to hit Dylan for 4 damage, dropping him to 6. Dylan was able to tap out on his next turn to use Stoke the Flames to clear the Seeker of the Way from the board, but the damage was done—Chandra, Pyromaster came down next to ping Dylan for one and his Firedrinker Satyr for another one, leaving Dylan at 4. Dylan attacked the Chandra with his creatures, but a second planeswalker, Sarkan, Dragonspeaker, showed up to fly over for the last 4 points of damage.

Trevor brings the Brimaz beats.
Frenzied Goblin led the charge for Dylan. He cast it on turn 1 then enchanted it with a Dragon Mantle on turn 2, attacking for 1. When he came in a second time, Trevor used Magma Jet to burn it away, and Dylan replaced it with a Foundry Street Denizen. Trevor put the brakes to Dylan’s aggression on his turn 3, adding Brimaz, King of Oreskos to his board.
Dylan cast another Frenzied Goblin and buffed it up with a Hammerhand, but took the hit when Brimaz came swinging again. Trevor passed the turn with mana up, and when Dylan added a Monastery Swiftspear to his board, enabling a potential Stoke the Flames, Trevor responded with a flurry of burn spells, killing off the Frenzied Goblin and Foundry Street Denizen with a Magma Jet and a Lightning Strike. This left Dylan defenseless as Trevor untapped and cast Mantis Rider, jamming in for 8 points of damage.
A third land, in conjunction with the Monastery Swiftspear, gave Dylan the resources he needed to cast his Stoke the Flames on his next turn, dealing with Brimaz. The damage was done, however, as the Mantis Rider and pair of Cat Soldier tokens attacked again dropping Dylan to 3, and Trevor flashed a Lightning Strike to close things out.
