Quarterfinals: Nick Gil vs. William Miller
Nick made it into the Top 8 as the top seed behind R/W Aggro, the most popular deck on Day 2 of #SCGLA. William is playing a G/R Devotion deck similar to what Robert Berni won #SCGHOU with last weekend. Which player would move on to the semifinals?
William cracks a smile after taking Game 1.
Will, on the draw, made the first play in an Elvish Mystic which enabled a Turn-2 Courser of Kruphix after Nick played a Seeker of the Way. Nick used Chained to the Rocks to exile the Courser and got in for 3. Will added a pair of Sylvan Caryatids to his board and Nick got in for 2 more with his Seeker and played a post-combat Soulfire Grand Master.
Will played a Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and a Whisperwood Elemental, getting a Manifest at the end step. Nick dealt with the Whisperwood with another copy of Chained to the Rocks and bashed in with his team, dropping Will to 12 and putting him at 24. Will flipped his Manifest into a Voyaging Satyr, played a Polukranos, and fired off a Crater’s Claw on the Seeker of the Way.
Nick ran a bluff with his Grand Master but Will called, leading Nick to play Hordeling Outburst. Will played another Whisperwood Elemental and followed it up with a Shamanic Revelation, drawing six cars and going up to 20. Will kept adding to the board with a Courser of Kruphix and fetched away his top card, played an Elvish Mystic with his last floating mana and attacked with his hydra and Nick chumped with a Goblin.
Nick could only add an Outpost Siege, naming Khans, to his board, leaving Will to monstrous his Polukranos for 12 to clear the board and attack for the win.

Nick shuffles with incredible focus.
This time Nick was first to the board with a Seeker of the Way while Will matched two-drops with a Sylvan Caryatid. Will blocked Nick’s attack and got to untap after Nick made no follow-up play. Will dropped a pair of Voyaging Satyrs and passed back, leading Nick to flash in a Hushwing Gryff. Nick fired off Arc Lightning to clear a Satyr and attacked with his creatures, dropping Will to 14.
Will played a Courser of Kruphix and an Elvish Mystic along with a Wooded Foothills before passing the turn. Nick Chained the Courser to a rock and attacked Will to 10 and played a post-combat Ashcloud Phoenix. Will played a Reclamation Sage but its ability didn’t trigger due to the Gryff, fetched up a Forest, and dropped an Arbor Colossus. Nick added three Goblins to his board with a Hordeling Outburst and sent his team into the red zone, knocking Will to 7 after he chumped the Seeker with his Sage. Nick’s Phoenix turned into a Morph after Will blocked it with his Colossus, ending his turn.
Will simply played a land and shipped the turn, facing down Nick’s team of creatures. Nick deployed a Goblin Rabblemaster and attacked with his Goblins and the Seeker. Will took 1 and made his Colossus monstrous to kill the Gryff, and took down to Goblins with his blocks. Will played a Polukranos and made it monstrous as well, this one for four to kill the Morph and the Rabblemaster. Will pondered his options before turning the Colossus sideways to drop Nick to 17.
Nick played a second-main Rabblemaster and passed back. Will sent in his monstrous creatures and Nick chumped them with Goblins, leading Will to play a Whisperwood Elemental and made a Manifest at the end of the turn. Nick suicide his Goblin token from the Rabblemaster into Will’s Whisperwood Elemental and shipped the turn. Will pushed his creatures into the red zone and Nick extended the hand after showing two lands from his hand.
