Randolph shuffles up for Game 1.
Randolph started things off like many combo decks do, with a cantrip in the form of Preordain while Zack led with a Zuran Orb, Mox Diamond, pitching Glacial Chasm, and a Forest. Randolph opted for a Brainstorm on his next turn then used a Gitaxian Probe to see what Zack was working with and to draw a card. Randolph added a Polluted Delta and passed as Zack hit him down to 15 with a Punishing Fire at the end step only to untap and play a Grove of the Burnwillows.
Randolph went to 13 with another Probe and cast his second Brainstorm. Randolph cracked another Delta for a Swamp and played Duress, but Zack responded by sacrificing his Forest to Crop Rotation, getting a Rishadan Port. Duress missed on Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and another copy of Grove of the Burnwillows. Randolph passed after adding a Misty Rainforest as Zack took him to 11 with Grove and Punishing Fire.
Zack played his second Grove and opted to Port the Swamp on Randolph’s upkeep. Randolph added a Scalding Tarn to his board and passed as Zack got back his Punishing Fire. Zack shipped the turn after playing Urborg and again Ported the Swamp. Randolph went to 10 to fetch up a pair of Underground Seas. Randolph played a Volcanic Island and started his storm by playing Cabal Ritual (1) into Cabal Ritual (2) into Lotus Petal (3) into Lotus Petal (4) into Grim Tutor (5) going to 7 life. He continued going by playing Past in Flames (6) into flashed back Cabal Ritual (7) into another flashed back Ritual (8) into Duress (9) which Zack responded by hitting Randolph with Punishing Fire (10). Storm went to 11 with a flashed back Preordain into a new Lotus Petal (12) into Brainstorm (13) off a Petal into Cabal Ritual (14) into a flashed back Grim Tutor (15) for Tendrils of Agony, which was enough for Zack to pick up his cards.
