Quarterfinals: Royce Walter vs. Dan Jordan
Royce represents the lone combo deck in the Top 8 and faces off against Dan Jordan, playing the most popular deck on the weekend: U/R Delver. Will Royce be able to storm off before Dan overruns him with insects and elementals?
Dan lets Delver of Secrets get the job done.
Royce, on the play thanks to his higher seed, led off with a Ponder while Dan had his ideal start with a Delver of Secrets. Royce passed after playing an Island and Dan attacked for 1 after the Delver failed to flip then added a Young Pyromancer to his board. Facing down real pressure, Royce opted for a Brainstorm and passed to see Dan flip his Delver with a Brainstorm of his own. Dan Brainstormed to make an Elemental token and attacked Royce down to 14.
Royce kicked off his fourth turn with a Lion’s Eye Diamond and followed up with another once it resolved. Royce cracked both generating red and black mana, pitching his hand to cast Past in Flames, but Jordan had the Force of Will. With no black mana producing land in play and his LEDs spent, Royce scooped up his cards.

Royce debated his opener before keeping it and Dan went down to six cards for Game 2. Royce led off with a Dark Ritual into a Cabal Ritual then resolved a Lion’s Eye Diamond. Royce cracked for red while maintaining Priority for Infernal Tutor, getting a Cabal Ritual and proceeded to flash back Past in Flames. From there Royce played all three rituals again to play Infernal Tutor and hit Dan with a lethal Tendrils of Agony for the Turn 1 kill.

Royce gets ready to storm off.
Both were happy with their seven-card hands and Dan started things off with a Ponder. Royce opened with a Gitaxian Probe, seeing a hand with Force of Will and multiple Probes to pitch for them as well as a Young Pyromancer. From there, Royce began setting up his hand with a Preordain. Dan added a Mountain and dropped his Pyromancer then made a token with one of his Probes to see what Royce was working with, then used another to add more power to his board.
Royce got rid of Dan’s Force of Will with his Cabal Therapy and saw a Flusterstorm was added to his grip. Knowing what he was working with Royce went for it with a Dark Ritual into an Infernal Tutor to get a second LED, played them both, cracked them for red and black as he played his second Tutor to get Tendrils of Agony and pointed it at Dan for the win.
