Quarterfinals: Zach Koch vs. Noah Walker
Zach, making his second straight Legacy Open Top 8, returns with Infect, but faces down Noah Walker and Grixis Delver. Can Zach poison his opponent before falling victim to insects and anglers?
Zach, on a mulligan to six, led off with a Tropical Island and no play while Noah opted to Ponder. After Noah kept with his Ponder, Zach Brainstormed at the end of the turn, untapped, and played a Forest so he could cast Blighted Agent. Noah used a Gitaxian Probe to see what tricks he had to play around and used a Forked Bolt to deal with the Agent.
Zach found a Probe of his own off the top and saw a hand of burn then Pondered, looking for another threat. Zach settled for a Noble Hierarch and shipped the turn. Noah fetched an Underground Sea in his upkeep and deployed his Young Pyromancer after taking a draw. Noah fetched up a second Volcanic Island and passed with access to his numerous Lightning Bolts. Zach bashed with his Hierarch for one, Brainstormed, fetched a Tropical Island, and played a Glistener Elf.
Noah destroyed a Tropical Island with Wasteland then pointed a Bolt at the Elf. Zach attempted to save it with a Vines of Vastwood, but Noah had the Daze to counter, while making a second Elemental token. Noah finished his turn delving away his graveyard for a Gurmag Angler. Zach played an Inkmoth Nexus and passed the turn. Noah attacked Zach down to 7 and Brainstormed, making another 1/1. Noah resolved his Brainstorm, played a Delver of Secrets, and shipped the turn.
Zach fired up the Nexus and attacked, connecting for two poison. Noah sent his team into the red zone and pointed a Bolt at Zach after blocks to take the first game.

Both players kept their openers this time and Zach opened with a Noble Hierarch. Noah considered his options and made a one-drop of his own, a Deathrite Shaman. Zach added a Wooded Foothills to his mana base and shipped the turn with no infector. Noah did have a threat, two in fact, in the form of two Delvers of Secrets. Zach Brainstormed at the end of the turn and cleared his library by fetching a second Tropical Island.
Zach dropped an Inkmoth Nexus and passed, leading Noah to flip both of his Delvers with a Pyroblast. Noah attacked with only one of the Delvers, played a Young Pyromancer, and passed the turn. Zach used a Gitaxian Probe to see what Noah was hiding, seeing Pyroblast, Dig Through Time, and Dismember. Zach activated his Nexus, used Crop Rotation to turn a Tropical Island into Pendelhaven, pumped his Nexus with the land, and attacked. Noah blocked with his untapped 3/2 and Zach passed, prompting Noah to use Dismember on the Nexus, but Zach attempted to stop it with a Spell Pierce. Noah fetched a Volcanic Island and pointed the Pyroblast at the Spell Pierce, but Zach Dazed it to keep his threat alive.
Noah tapped out for a Dig Through Time, played a Polluted Delta, and attacked with everything but the Insectile Aberration. Noah fetched an Underground Sea and passed the turn. Zach played a second Hierarch, activated his Nexus, attempted to pump it with Pendelhaven, but Noah showed why he fetched an Underground Sea by targeting it with Disfigure. Zach studied his hand, but when he couldn't keep his threat alive he extended the hand.
