Round 16: Ben Wienburg vs. Tyler Phelps
We got ourselves an Elves mirror with a Top-16 finish for the winner. Would Ben Wienburg or Tyler Phelps pilot the other “little green men” to the win?
Ben plays an Elvish+Visionary.
Ben kept his seven after some deliberation while Tyler went down to six cards. Ben started things with a Deathrite+Shaman and Tyler Green Sun’s Zenithed for a Dryad+Arbor. Ben added an Arbor of his own to the board and played a Nettle+Sentinel before attacking for one with the Shaman. Tyler had a Sentinel of his own and a Birchlore Ranger then played a Heritage+Druid into a Wirewood+Symbiote.
Ben started with a Glimpse+of+Nature into a Nettle+Sentinel into Wirewood+Symbiote, bounced a Sentinel, then played another Symbiote, then bounced his Shaman and played a Birchlore Ranger into the Nettle+Sentinel again, replayed the Deathrite+Shaman into a Symbiote into a Heritage+Druid, then found his Gaea’s Cradle, tapped it and played Craterhoof+Behemoth, and attacked with his Behemoth, Sentinel, and Arbor to take the game after more Symbiote shenanigans.

Tyler begins a combo turn.
Both went down six this time and Tyler started things off with a Deathrite+Shaman from a Bayou and Ben opted to Green Sun’s Zenith for a Dryad+Arbor this time. Tyler played a Quirion+Ranger and attacked for one then replayed the land and cast Nettle+Sentinel. Ben went for another GSZ, this time for an Elvish+Visionary.
Tyler couldn’t find a second land so he attacked with the Sentinel and the Shaman, then used his Ranger to bounce his Bayou and played a GSZ for a Heritage+Druid then played a Wirewood+Symbiote and passed. Ben began his turn by fetching up a Bayou and played Natural+Order sacrificing Elvish+Visionary and put Elderscale+Wurm into play then passed.
Tyler went into the tank before generating some mana with his creatures to use Glimpse to replay Quirion+Ranger then played Natural+Order, sacrificing the Ranger, to put an Elvish+Visionary into play then cast a Symbiote into another Symbiote, bouncing his Visionary then replaying it, played a Nettle+Sentinel into another Visionary, made more mana and played another Glimpse and a Shaman into a Symbiote into a Ranger into another Druid into another Shaman into a Birchlore+Rangers until he finally found his Gaea’s Cradle, played Natural+Order off his floating mana, getting rid of a Visionary for a Symbiote, activated his Shaman to drain Ben, a process he did again, into another Shaman into Sentinel into another Natural+Order ditching a Visionary for a Birchlore+Rangers, until he had to go to clean up and discard down to seven cards.
Ben decided it was his time for a Glimpse and started with a Birchlore+Rangers then played a GSZ for a Wirewood+Symbiote, fetched up a Forest to play another Birchlore+Rangers and passed the turn. Tyler began using his Shaman and untapping it until he finally drained Ben out with the rare from Return to Ravnica.

Ben again went to six and Tyler kept his seven. Ben started with a Bayou into Thoughtseize to take a Glimpse+of+Nature from Tyler’s hand. Tyler had a turn-1 Deathrite+Shaman off a fetched up Bayou and passed. Ben played a Wirewood+Symbiote and passed back. Tyler used a Thoughtseize of his own to take a Glimpse from Ben then played an Elvish+Visionary and shipped the turn back.
Ben fetched a Dryad+Arbor at the end of turn then untapped and attacked Tyler down to 14 before playing a Verdant+Catacombs and passing. Tyler played a Symbiote and bounced his Visionary then replayed it and ended his turn with a Heritage+Druid. Ben got another Arbor at the end of the turn and untapped and played a Deathrite+Shaman and a Gaea’s Cradle but had no other play.
Tyler started making mana and replayed his Visionary then played a Deathrite+Shaman into a Natural+Order, ditching a Shaman, getting a Quirion+Ranger and passed with no further action. Ben played a Visionary of his own to get a card, then bounced it with his Symbiote so he could replay it then another Symbiote into the Visionary again then ended his turn with a Nettle+Sentinel.
Tyler generated a bunch of mana until he could cast a Craterhoof+Behemoth which prompted the concession from Ben.
