Round 6: Kent Ketter vs. Stephen Mann
Both of Stephen Mann’s Legacy matches so far have been against the twist on Reanimator brought to the table by the Nerd Rage Gaming duo. Stephen had bested Joe Lossett earlier with his Temur Delver deck, but could he also get past Kent Ketter?
Kent lays it all out there thanks to Stephen's Gitaxian Probe.
Kent snuck a Gemstone Caverns into play on Steve’s turn, pitching Bloodstained Mire, and Steve used Gitaxian Probe to sniff out what else was going on in Kent’s hand. He saw Reanimate, Ponder, Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, and a pair of Bloodstained Mires, then put Delver of Secrets into play. Kent took his turn and cast a Ponder, then played a Boodstained Mire and passed. Logan flipped up Insectile Aberration immediately, revealing a Brainstorm, which Steve cast before fetching up a Volcanic Island and swinging for 3 in the air.
Kent tried Brainstorm on his next turn, but Steve was ready with a Pyroblast, and Kent passed without further play. Steve got tricky on his next turn, Dazing his own Young Pyromancer to fill up his graveyard so that he could cast a Treasure Cruise. He found another Gitaxian Probe, seeing Elesh Norn, Reanimate, and two lands in Kent’s hand, then replayed his Volcanic Island and cast Delver of Secrets. After a quick “draw, go” from Kent, Steve revealed Ponder off the top to make it a pair of 3/2 fliers and sent them in, dropping Kent to 7.
Kent found a gamebreaker on his next draw step. He tapped his Gemstone Cavern, pitched Elesh Norn and two lands, and showed Firestorm, targeting Stephen and his two Insectile Aberrations. Stephen couldn’t cast Force of Will fast enough. Kent’s last card in hand, Reanimate, would have been able to bring the Elesh Norn back and sweep the board, but he was at exactly 7 life, and the Reanimate would put him at 0. He saw the writing on the wall, and picked up his cards.

Stephen's Insectile Aberration comes out to play.
Stephen was first to the board with a turn 1 Delver of Secrets, while Kent waited until his second turn to spring into action. He cast Brainstorm, then fetched up a Volcanic Island and cast Careful Study. Stephen tried for Daze, but Kent Dazed back, and the Careful Study resolved, pitching a Sphinx of the Steel Wind. Stephen just replayed his land, attacked with his 1/1 Delver, and passed, and Kent matched him, replaying his Volcanic Island passing right back.
Pyroblast off the top flipped up Stephen’s Insectile Aberration, and it came swinging, dropping Kent to 15. Stephen Gitaxian Probed to see Reanimate and a land left in Kent’s hand; Kent had waited a turn on the Reanimate to play around Spell Pierce, which Kent did in fact have. The Probe found him a Force of Will, however, so when Kent went for Reanimate on his next turn, Stephen was able to pitch the Spell Pierce to Force of Will to put a stop to it. He dropped Kent to 12, added another Delver to the board, and passed the turn. Kent found and attempted Careful Study, but Stephen’s Pyroblast put a stop to those shenanigans.
A Brainstorm off the top made it a duo of insects in the air, and made it a 1 turn clock for Kent. He fell to 6, checked his draw, and extended the hand.
