Round 6: Tom Ross vs. Chris VanMeter
A win for either player will get them into Day 2 of the tournament. Will Chris VanMeter and Reanimator be able to get his monsters into play before Tom can Infect him?
Chris resolves an Ehume.
Tom won the roll and opened with a Verdant Catacombs and passed as Chris fetched an Underground Sea and attempted a Careful Study, leading to a Brainstorm from Tom, who let it resolve. Chris binned Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite and an Iona, Shield of Emeria. Tom dropped a Pendelhaven and a Blighted Agent before passing the turn.
Chris went for an Exhume and Tom used Force of Will on it, but Chris Dazed it, which won the counter war and resulted in Chris getting the Elesh Norn in play. Tom drew and passed and Chris used another Exhume to put Iona, Shield of Emeria into play, naming “green.” With two unstoppable threats on the other side of the board, Tom gave up.

Tom’s Blighted Agent Becomes Immense.
Tom started this game the same way as last and Chris did the same, going for a Careful Study, pitching a pair of Griselbrands. Tom made his same Turn-2 play, dropping a Blighted Agent. Chris fetched up a Bayou to go with his Underground Sea and played Exhume, but Tom Dazed it.
Tom added a Noble Hierarch to his board and swung in for 2 poison and passed back. Chris went for another Careful Study, looking for a way to bring his monsters back from the dead. After pitching two lands he played Exhume, but Tom responded with a Crop Rotation for a Bojuka Bog to clear Chris’ graveyard.
“I take it my Exhume resolves?” Chris asked.
“Yup,” Tom said, who untapped and played Become Immense on his Agent to attack for the win.
Chris went down to six and led off the final game with a Ponder, but Tom decided to use Force of Will on it, pitching Brainstorm. Chris Dazed back and ended up having to shuffle his Ponder for a fresh one off the top.
“Your hand must be awesome,” Chris joked.
Tom led his first turn with a Gitaxian Probe to see the hand, used another to dig deeper, and passed without playing a land! “Not that good,” Tom finally answered.
Chris played a land and passed and Tom passed back with no land, Chris played a fetch land and Tom played a Bojuka Bog as his first land, resulting in laughs from both sides. Chris dropped another fetch land and played two Lotus Petals. Tom dropped an Inkmoth Nexus, “we got a clock now.”
Chris played another fetch and played Brainstorm, but Tom used another Force of Will resulting in Chris Forcing back to get to Brainstorm. Chris passed and Tom got in for 1 and passed. The sequence happened again and Chris had to pass again after two hits with no play.
Tom found a Misty Rainforest to get a Tropical Island and sat up in his chair. He got in for 1 after thinking and passed the turn. Chris finally made a play in Entomb, and Tom said “OK.” Chris found an Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite and went for an Exhume. Tom used his third Force of Will leading to Chris to try another Exhume and Tom had the Spell Pierce for it.
“I guess I lose,” Chris said.
Tom smirked and activated his Nexus, attacked and used Become Immense to attack for 7 poison to take the match and move on to Day 2.
