Round 7: Todd Anderson (Maverick) vs. Harold White (Esper Stoneblade)
Thalia%2C+Guardian+of+Thraben and Noble+Hierarch. He lost the Mother+of+Runes to Swords+to+Plowshares, but Thalia laid into Harold with the help of Noble+Hierarch. Knight+of+the+Reliquary got squashed by Counterspell and Harold tried to stem the bleeding further with Vindicate on the Noble+Hierarch, cutting Todd’s mana sources down to just Savannah and Plains.
Qasali+Pridemage replaced the fallen druid and Thalia got in for another three, dropping Harold to 10, but again Harold had a way to slow Todd down on the next turn, this time with Snapcaster+Mage rebuying the Swords+to+Plowshares. He was way behind but at least Thalia%2C+Guardian+of+Thraben was out of the picture. Noble+Hierarch picked up the slack and Qasali+Pridemage got in there, batting Harold down to 6, but he looked up Todd with Inquisition of Kozilek to see if he could find a way out, taking away Green Sun’s Zenith and leaving Todd with Elspeth%2C+Knight-Errant. Todd needed to draw a land in order to recruit the planeswalker, and Harold passed the turn with fingers crossed, hoping for an extra turn get start getting rid of Todd’s creatures.
Windswept+Heath came off the top and Harold decided things might look better with some help from his sideboard.

Noble+Hierarch enabled an early Dauntless+Escort that Harold took care of with Swords+to+Plowshares. Todd came back with Noble+Hierarch and Mother+of+Runes plus Maze+of+Ith, allowing his Noble+Hierarch to attack without worry, but Snapcaster+Mage on Swords+to+Plowshares kept Mother+of+Runes from getting active.
Harold took two from the Noble+Hierarch, but he capitalized on Todd’s weakened position with Stoneforge+Mystic for Batterskull, forcing Todd to rebuild with a Scryb+Ranger that was blasted by Harold’s Force+of+Will. That cleared the way for a replacement Mother+of+Runes and a Swords+to+Plowshares on the Stoneforge+Mystic, essentially forcing Lingering+Souls from Harold as he tried to even the board out a little. Not wanting to give up the initiative, Green Sun’s Zenith for Knight+of+the+Reliquary tipped the game back in Todd’s favor with Harold stuck on three lands.
Umezawa’s Jitte made an appearance, but Todd’s Maze+of+Ith was going to keep safe from the dangerous equipment, and Knight+of+the+Reliquary turned a Savannah into a Wasteland to eat Harold’s Underground+Sea, leaving him with just Island and Plains and a lot of catching up to do.
Elspeth%2C+Knight-Errant dug the hole a little deeper, making a soldier token and threatening to jump a Mother+of+Runes protect Knight+of+the+Reliquary through the spirit tokens for lethal damage. Todd went for it despite Harold’s light-hearted attempt at a bluff, and the lethal knight found its mark to take the match.
