Semifinals: Brandon Smith vs. William Lo
Brandon is doing his part to give Elves another finals appearance on the Open Series while William is the lone control deck in the Top 8 with Miracles. Which player would get a chance to play for the trophy?

Brandon kicked things off with a Green Sun’s Zenith for a Dryad Arbor and William had the turn-1 Sensei’s Divining Top. Brandon went to 18 off another fetch and played an Elvish Visionary and a Birchlore Ranger and tapped his elves to play a Nettle Sentinel. William fetched up a Tundra and slammed a Counterbalance.
Brandon attacked William down to 14 then played a Heritage Druid, but William returned Top to the top to counter it and Brandon ended his turn by playing another Dryad Arbor. William replayed his Top and passed with no third land. Brandon attacked for 6 this time to put William at 8 and dropped a Gaea’s Cradle before passing.
William Pondered and failed to find a land and passed back. Brandon played a Heritage Druid to untap his Sentinel and sent in the team, but William had the Terminus on top and was able to top it to take care of Brandon’s team. William replayed his Top and shipped the turn.
Brandon went for a Quirion Ranger but William had Brainstorm on top to counter it with Counterbalance. William bricked on land and discarded a Spell Pierce and Brandon passed after drawing. Each player went land-go for a while or draw-go in Brandon’s case for a few turns before William went to 7 on a fetch for an Island and played another top. Each kept passing with no plays a bit longer until William resolved a Jace, the Mind Sculptor, which he fate sealed with.
Brandon bashed for one with a Dryad Arbor and discarded down to seven cards and William decided to use a Swords to Plowshares on the Arbor. William fate sealed again and passed. Brandon tried to resolve an Elvish Visionary, but William had enough tricks to counter it with a Counterbalance reveal. William upped Jace to 13 and passed. William used the ultimate on Jace and Brandon fetched an Arbor in response and lost his hand into his library.
Once William played a blocker in the form of Snapcaster Mage Brandon picked up his cards.

Brandon fetched up a Bayou for a Deathrite Shaman and William had the Swords for it. Brandon played a Quirion Ranger next and bounced his Bayou to play a Nettle Sentinel. William had a Scalding Tarn and passed. Brandon began turn 3 with a Glimpse of Nature but William had a Spell Pierce to stop it. Brandon added a Gaea’s Cradle to his mana base and attacked William down to 17 and ended his turn by playing an Elvish Visionary.
William played land-go again and shipped it back. Brandon sent in the team and William fetched a Volcanic Island and flashed in Snapcaster Mage to use a Swords on a Quirion Ranger and put the 2/1 in front of the Sentinel and took 1. Brandon played a Savannah and ended his turn.
William played a Counterbalance but Brandon had the Abrupt Decay for it. Brandon untapped and sent in the Visionary to knock William to 14. Brandon ended his turn with a Misty Rainforest. William found a Sensei’s Diving Top while Brandon fetched up a Dryad Arbor. Brandon went for another Glimpse of Nature, but William had the Force of Will, pitching Spell Pierce. Brandon added a Quirion Ranger and Heritage Druid to his board and passed.
William found a Swords to Plowshares to exile a Heritage Druid and Brandon attacked William down to 7. William passed with no play and Brandon attacked with his team and got in for two after bouncing his Arbor when William tried to hit it with a Swords. William Brainstormed and replayed his Top and shipped the turn. Brandon fetched another Arbor at the end of the turn and untapped and attacked for 3, William fetched to go down to 4 and took the damage to go to 1. Brandon ended his turn by replaying a Dryad Arbor.
William topped and passed back facing down a bunch of 1/1s. Brandon sent in his team and forced Game 3.

William was on the play and kept his opener while Brandon went to Paris. William played a Tundra and passed while Brandon fetched up a Bayou to play a Green Sun’s Zenith for a Dryad Arbor. William had Counterbalance on turn 2 and passed back. Brandon fetched for a Savannah and went for GSZ for 2 and William blind-flipped a Vendilion Clique off Counterbalance.
William played his land and shipped the turn. Brandon went for a Glimpse of Nature and it resolved after Counterbalance revealed a Snapcaster Mage. Brandon played a Deathrite Shaman and attacked with his Arbor then played a fetch land. William added a Plains to his board and passed as Brandon fetched again for an Arbor. Brandon untapped and attacked with his Arbors and passed back. William fetched a land and dropped Supreme Verdict so Brandon responded by draining William for 2. Brandon untapped and fired off an Abrupt Decay on the Counterbalance and passed.
William played his Jace and Brainstormed with it on the safe board and passed. All Brandon could do was play a Gaea’s Cradle while William fetched again. William Brainstormed again off Jace, played a Flooded Strand and a Top before saying “go.”
Brandon attempted a GSZ for 2 and William allowed it so Brandon found an Elvish Visionary. William started on the fate sealing plan and left the card on top and passed. Brandon attacked William to 12 with his Visionary then played Glimpse of Nature and played Heritage Druid into a Birchlore Ranger and ended there. William played his Clique finally and let Brandon keep his hand. William miracle Terminus and cleaned the board and ticked up Jace.
Brandon went for another Glimpse and started with a Deathrite Shaman into an Elvish Visionary and passed again. William miracle an Entreat the Angel at the end of the turn for five angels, untapped and attacked for the win.
