Semifinals: Jacob Neighbors vs. Chris VanMeter
Chris went undefeated in the Swiss and is now two match wins away from shaving the beard. In his way is Jacob and his B/W Devotion deck. Which player would move on for a chance at the trophy?

Jacob kept his seven and Chris went to six. Both players starting things with tapped lands and Jacob made the first play in a Pack Rat. Chris responded with a Sylvan Caryatid. Jacob shocked himself to play a Lifebane Zombie on turn 3 and exiled a Ghor-Clan Rampager. Chris scryed away a card with a temple and added another Caryatid to the board. Jacob had a temple and attacked with the Zombie before passing.
Chris landed a Xenagos, the Reveler and plussed it for enough mana to play a third Caryatid. Jacob made a rat at end of turn, untapped, and swung everything including his Mutavault at the planeswalker, killing it. Chris played a land and passed and Jacob attacked with his rats and zombie. Chris considered his blocks before deciding on taking it all so Jacob made a rat in response to knock Chris down to 8. Chris drew for the turn and scooped them up after seeing an Elvish Mystic off the top.

Both players kept their seven and Chris led things off with a Temple of Abandon. Jacob did the same but with a Temple of Silence. Chris scryed again with a land, but had no play while Jacob again had the turn-2 Pack Rat, but Chris had the answer in Mizzium Mortars, but didn’t find a third land. Jacob got in for two with his Mutavault and passed. Chris whiffed on a land again, but did have a Sylvan Caryatid, but Jacob had a Devour Flesh for it and attacked for 2. Chris found a third land and added a Scavenging Ooze to his board, but Jacob had another Devour Flesh and attacked with his land again to knock Chris to 19.
Chris Thoughtseized and ripped an Elspeth, Sun’s Champion out of Jacob’s hand leaving him with Ultimate Price and two lands. Chris passed after playing a fourth land. Jacob got in for two more with the land and shipped the turn. Chris found a Xengaos, the Reveler and made a 2/2 that attacked Jacob down to 18. Jacob attacked Xenagos down to 1 with his land passed it back. Chris made another Satyr and replaced the planeswalker with another copy of itself and made another Satyr, then sent all three in to drop Jacob to 12. Jacob attacked the second Xenagos down to 1 and deployed a Desecration Demon.
Chris found a fifth land and used a Dreadbore on the Demon, pumped out another Satyr and knocked Jacob down to 4 with his 2/2s. Jacob drew, pondered for a minute, and conceded the game.

Both kept seven and Jacob had a scry land, while Chris had a turn-1 Elvish Mystic off a Forest. Jacob had the turn-2 Pack Rat. Chris had a Temple of Abandon and passed the turn without a play. Jacob sent in the rat after making a third land drop, but did not make a copy of the rat.
Chris shocked himself with a Blood Crypt and dropped a Polukranos, World Eater, but Jacob had the Ultimate Price. Jacob knocked Chris to 16 with his rat, then played a Desecration Demon. Chris considered his plays for a moment and decided on playing another Elvish Mystic and killing the Pack Rat with a Dreadbore. Jacob bashed for six in the air to drop Chris to 10, played a Mutavault and cast Obzedat, Ghost Council that flickered out.
“This is not good,” Chris said after tanking following his draw step.
Chris went with an Ultimate Price on the Demon, played a tapped Blood Crypt, and passed. Obzedat came back to drain Chris down to 6 and moved Jacob up to 22. Jacob attacked with the Mutavault and Obzedat, Chris chumped the Ghost Council and fell to 4 from the land. Chris looked at his plays, dropped Stormbreath Dragon, but realized he was dead to the Mutavualt and extended the hand.
