Semifinals: Jim Davis vs. Chris Hall
A rematch from the Swiss pairs Jim and Sultai Delver against Chris and Elves. Which player will play for the trophy against Storm?
Chris shuffles up for the semifinals.
Jim, on a mulligan to five, led off with a Flooded Strand and cracked it to Stifle Chris’ Misty Rainforest leading Jim to play a Deathrite Shaman and a Scalding Tarn. Chris attempted to fetch another land but Jim had another Stifle after fetching a Tropical Island.
Jim Pondered, looking for a clock, and passed, keeping the cards. Chris didn’t have to attempt to fetch for a land this time, playing Bayou and Deathrite Shaman, but Jim responded with a Brainstorm and countered the elf with a Force of Will. Jim began eating instants and sorceries to clock Chris as Chris played two Dryad Arbors as his lands.
Chris resolved a Glimpse of Nature and played a Nettle Sentinel to draw a card, leading to a Gaea’s Cradle to play an Elvish Visionary and passed as Jim dropped him 12 to eat the Glimpse. Jim landed a Dark Confidant and passed with one card in hand and an open Tropical Island. Chris used his Cradle for mana and sacrificed an Arbor to Natural Order, getting Craterhoof Behemoth, and served in with his team to take the first game.

Jim looks to battle back after dropping Game 1.
This time Jim was happy with his opener while Chris went down to six. Jim opened with a Deathrite Shaman off a Tropical Island as Chris played a Forest and a Green Sun’s Zenith to get a Dryad Arbor. Jim fetched an Underground Sea to Disfigure the Arbor then ate it with DRS to play a Dark Confidant. Chris played a Wirewood Symbiote and followed it up with a Nettle Sentinel, but Jim Dazed the 2/2.
Jim flipped a Wasteland off Bob, which he used on Chris’ Bayou, then ate the land to kill off the Symbiote with Marsh Casualties allowing him to get in for 2. Chris played another Bayou and a DRS of his own, and Jim got a Brainstorm off Bob, played another Dark Confidant, killed the Shaman with a Murderous Cut, and served in for 2 more.
Chris had another Shaman and passed, while the two Confidants revealed Brainstorm and DRS for Jim. Jim fired off a Brainstorm, cleared the top away by fetching an Underground Sea, and fired off a Thoughtseize, taking a Natural Order from Chris’ hand. Jim used an Abrupt Decay on the Shaman and attacked for 4.
Jim got a Delver of Secrets and another Shaman, falling to 10, and knocked Chris to 8 before deploying the Delver and Shaman. Chris went to 7 to fetch a Dryad Arbor at the end step, untapped, and passed, falling to 5 off a Shaman. Jim used a Brainstorm to set up his triggers, letting Delver flip off a Daze, then revealed the Daze and a Flooded Strand, leading Jim to turn everything sideways for the win.
Chris 1, Jim 1
Both kept their openers and Chris started the decider off by fetching a Forest to play a Deathrite Shaman as Jim landed a Grafdigger’s Cage off an Underground Sea. Chris went to 18 by fetching another Forest, played a Quirion Ranger and an Elvish Visionary then opted to pass the turn. Jim considered his options before playing a Dark Confidant after playing a Tropical Island.
Chris led off his third turn with a Wirewood Symbiote then bounced and replayed his Visionary and attacked for 1, dropping Jim to 19. Chris ended his turn with a Nettle Sentinel. Jim revealed a Scalding Tarn off Bob, Brainstormed, went to 18 to fetch another Underground Sea, Pondered, and played another Shaman before shipping the turn, leading Chris to bounce his Visionary.
Chris dropped a Bayou and replayed his Visionary, but Jim countered it with Force of Will, pitching another copy. Chris dropped Jim to 15 by eating the Ponder, attacked with his Sentinel, knocking Jim to 13. Chris untapped his Shaman with his army and made a mana to play another Sentinel, untapping the other 2/2. Jim played Brainstorm after revealing a Dark Confidant to itself, fetched down to 10, and played the other Confidant and another Shaman.
Chris attacked with his 2/2s and Jim threw a Bob in front of one, trading, and falling to 8. Chris played a Bayou, used a DRS to eat a Brainstorm then untapped his Shaman, using it again to eat a Confidant, replayed his bounced Sentinel and passed. Jim went to 5, revealing Disfigure for Bob, played a Wasteland and kicked his Marsh Casualties leading Chris to say, “I’ll have some responses.”
Chris bounced his Sentinel, used the Shaman to eat a Tarn, but Jim did it in response, then Chris lost the rest of his team. Jim went to 7 after using the mana for his Shaman and attacked for 2 with his Confidant. Chris deployed a Shaman and a Sentinel and passed. Jim went to 6 after revealing Brainstorm, killed the Shaman with Disfigure, killed the Sentinel with Abrupt Decay, destroyed a Bayou with his Wasteland, and attacked Chris down to 15.
Chris could only play his Gaea’s Cradle and pass as Jim went to 8 off a Shaman activation then back to 7 after revealing a Delver of Secrets. Jim played the Delver, attacked Chris to 13 and passed after adding Scalding Tarn to his board. Chris played a Misty Rainforest and passed, leading Jim to go up to 11 after eating two creatures with Shamans. Jim took 1 to flip the Delver and reveal Thoughtseize for Bob. Jim Brainstormed, attacked for 8, and passed, stopping Chris in his draw step to fetch an Underground Sea and use a Vendilion Clique, letting Chris keep his hand of unplayable spells. From there, Jim went through the motions and took the match.
