Semifinals: Josh Granado vs. Keith Seldon
We got a real grinder here in the semifinals. Josh brings Junk Midrange to the table while Keith has U/W Control. Which player would advance to the finals and a matchup against Mono-Red Aggro?
Josh contemplates his next move.
Josh kept his seven while Keith had to go down to five after thinking a while about his six-card hand. Josh kicked things off with a Temple of Plenty and Keith led with his Elixir or Immortality, but Josh opted to use an Abrupt Decay on the Elixir on turn-2. Keith played Font of Fortunes and Josh had a Scavenging Ooze and a temple.
Josh attacked with the Ooze, played another one, and fired off a Thoughtseize to rip a Detention Sphere from Keith’s hand and passed. Keith found a Mutavault off the top and passed after adding it to his mana base. Josh attacked with both Oozes and knocked Keith down to 14 and passed with no other play, so Keith cycled an Azorius Charm. Keith missed land No. 4 and shipped the turn back.
Josh sent his Oozes into the red zone again and passed, also stalling on land and Keith cycled another Charm. Keith found a Temple of Enlightenment and passed after scrying a card away. Josh dropped Keith to 6 with his creatures and passed again with no land or play. Keith fired off a Supreme Verdict and passed with a clean board.
Josh found a land and played Sylvan Caryatid while Keith found another land and passed. Josh deployed a Courser of Kruphix, but Keith removed it from the game with a Syncopate and Josh ended his turn. Keith hit his land drop, another temple, and passed facing down no pressure. Josh went for another Courser and Keith allowed this one to resolve. The Courser revealed a Temple Garden that Josh put into play and passed, which led Keith to use a Sphinx’s Revelation for two to go up to 8.
Keith found a Banishing Light for the Courser and passed. Josh played a temple and went for a Blood Baron of Vizkopa, but Keith had the Dissolve. After Keith passed Josh went for an Ajani, Mentor of Heroes, which resolved, and ticked up to find an Elspeth, Sun’s Champion form the top of the deck. Josh added another Caryatid and Keith Revelated again to go up to 12. Keith landed a Jace, Architect of Thought and rolled it down to net a Detention Sphere and Supreme Verdict.
Josh searched with his Ajani again, this time finding a Caryatid, then landed a Banishing Light to get rid of Jace and ended his turn after going for an Obzedat, Ghost Council that got hit by another Dissolve from Keith. Keith played his ninth land and used the opening to slam Aetherling and passed. Staring down a quick clock on the other side of the table, Josh tanked on his next play, finally deciding on searching with Ajani, which found another Obzedat, Josh went for it and it resolved putting him at 21 and passed after phasing out the 5/5.
Keith deciding to attack Josh and ignore the Ajani at 7 loyalty, hitting Josh for just 4 then passed with a ton of open mana. Obzedat came back and drained Keith to 8. Josh played a Thoughtseize and Keith used a Revelation for six in response, and Josh took a Detention Sphere Josh used a Hero’s Downfall to kill the Aetherling with Keith tapped out, then upped Ajani to 8, finding an Underworld Connections, attacked Keith down to 9 with Obzedat, and flickered it out at the end step.
Keith used a Verdict to clean up some Caryatids and proceeded to end step and discarded down to seven. Obzedat came back and drained for two more, then upped Ajani to find a Courser, played it and passed, phasing out the Obzedat and Keith responded by using a Deicide on a Banishing Light to get his Jace back. Keith FOFed with Jace and found a Detention Sphere that he played and dealt with the Ajani and ended his turn with a Verdict.
Obzedat came back and dropped Keith to 5 then played an Archangel of Thune and flickered his Ghost Council. Keith cashed in his Jace and got an Elspeth then put the Angel in a sphere of detention and dropped Elspeth, making three tokens. Josh brought back Obzedat to drain Keith to 3 and Josh drew a card off his Connections before hitting the Elspeth with a Banishing Light and phased out the Obzedat.
Keith drew for the turn and had seen enough.

Keith looks for his best play.
This time Keith found a suitable seven while Josh went to Paris. Keith had a Temple of Enlightenment and Josh copied with one of Plenty. Keith had a Font of Fortunes and Josh added a tapped Temple Garden. Keith passed after a land and Josh resolved a Courser of Kruphix while Keith sacrificed the Font to draw two cards. Keith dropped Jace and ticked it up. Josh used a Thoughtseize to take an Elspeth from Keith’s hand and attacked Jace for 1 with the Courser.
Keith continued to play lands and tick up his Jace while Josh couldn’t find a fifth land, but did use a Banishing Light on the Jace and attacked Keith for 1. Keith found another Elspeth and made three soldiers. Josh’s Courser finally revealed a land he got to put into play and killed the Elspeth with a Hero’s Downfall as the top card of his deck showed a Whip of Erebos. Keith decided to use a Detention Sphere on the Courser and attacked with his tokens.
Josh resolved a Scavenging Ooze and passed with three mana up. Keith untapped and used a Deicide on the Banishing Light to get his Jace back, which he FOFed to get two lands and passed so Josh used an Abrupt Decay on the Detention Sphere to get his Courser back. Josh attempted to play the Whip, but Keith had a Dissolve for it. Keith upped his Jace and sent in his soldiers to hit Josh for one and cleaned the board with a Supreme Verdict.
Josh untapped and went for an Underworld Connections, but Keith had another Dissolve to keep ahead on board and on cards. Keith FOFed again with Jace, this time getting his Aetherling, which he played and passed with two blue mana available. Josh took a draw from the top and realized he couldn’t beat the shapeshifter in time.

Both found seven-card hands they liked and Josh led off Game 3 with a tapped Godless Shrine and Keith had a Hallowed Fountain to match. Josh added a Temple of Plenty and played a Thoughtseize to take a Dissolve from Keith’s hand. Keith played another tapped Fountain and passed as Josh shocked himself to play a Sin Collector and Keith responded with a Quicken to draw a card. Josh took a Negate from Keith and saw that he still didn’t have a third land in the grip.
Keith found a Mutavault of the top and played it and passed. Josh attacked with the Collector and passed with no other play on his side. Keith ripped a fourth land and dropped Jace and ticked him up. Josh found a Temple and attacked the Planeswalker for 1 and passed again. Keith ticked up Jace again and shipped the turn, missing land No. 5. Josh hit Jace for 1 again and played a Lifebane Zombie, getting another look at Keith’s hand.
Keith found a Temple of Enlightenment off the top and ticked up Jace again, content with Josh pecking away at Planeswalker’s loyalty. Josh obliged and knocked Jace down to 2 then placed an Underworld Connections of his Mana Confluence. Keith pondered for a while before dropping his sixth land and slamming Elspeth, making three tokens, and upped his Jace.
Josh used the window to resolve an Obzedat, which drained Keith to 16, then attacked Elspeth down to 3 with his Zombie. Keith sent in his tokens and Josh traded his Collector with one of them and cleaned the board of all creatures with Supreme Verdict. Keith made more soldiers with Elspeth and FOFed Jace and ended up with a Detention Sphere from the split. Josh drew a card with Connections, untapped and brought back Obzedat and went for a Thoughtseize, but Keith had a Dissolve. Josh drew another card off his land and played another Thoughtseize and took a Detention Sphere. Josh landed a Whip of Erebos and sent the Ghost Council at Keith, who threw a soldier under the bus.
Keith made more tokens, attacked with two of them and upped Jace before hitting the Whip with a Banishing Light. Obzedat drained Keith down to 12 and gained Josh up to 17. Josh used an Abrupt Decay on the Banishing Light to get his Whip, which he activated to get Sin Collector to take a Supreme Verdict from Keith, and attacked Elspeth with both creatures to gain 5 and Keith put soldiers in front of each. Obzedat phased out for Josh and Keith attacked with his soldiers and two Mutavaults before upping his Planeswalkers and passed.
Obzedat did its thing again and Josh used the Whip to bring back a Lifebane Zombie which hit Elspeth for 2, bring her down to 4 loyalty and Josh made no other play, flickering the Ghost Council. Keith FOFed with Jace to net a Celestial Flare then attacked Josh down to 12 with his soldiers and passed after making three more tokens. Josh drew a card off his land and untapped to bring back Obzedat to drain Keith to 8. Josh killed Elspeth with Hero’s Downfall and resolved an Ajani, Mentor of Heroes that found a Scavenging Ooze. When Josh flickered Obzedat Keith used a Sphinx’s Revelation for five to go up to 13. Keith attacked with all of his soldiers and three Mutavaults and Josh extended his hand.
