Wild Card Match: Andrew Jessup vs. Jim Davis
Two MGG teammates square off it in a Wild Card match in a Temur Aetherworks mirror. Would the defending champion continue his run or would Andrew move into the Top 8?
Andrew opened with a Vessel while Jim opted for Attune with Aether for a Mountain, leading Andrew to match the two energy with a Servant of the Conduit. Jim killed the Servant with Harness Lightning and Andrew passed after adding a third land to his board. Jim used his next turn to play a Vessel while Andrew cracked his at the end step, getting a Woodweaver’s Puzzleknot. Andrew played the Puzzleknot, going up to six energy and passed after adding an Island to his board. Jim cracked his Vessel, getting An Aether Hub.
Jim untapped and fired off another copy of Attune with Aether, going up to five energy and getting a Forest before playing another Vessel. Andrew was the first to land Aetherworks Marvel and spun the wheel immediately, hitting Ishkanah, Grafwidow and her three spiders. Jim cracked the Vessel at the end step, choosing to take Emrakul, the Promised End. Jim cast an Ishkanah the old-fashioned way, also getting three spiders.
Andrew got three energy with Harness Lightning opting to not kill anything and a Whirler Virtuoso to spin the wheel again, getting Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger. Andrew exiled two Forests and shipped the turn. Jim took his turn and played a Forest and a Puzzleknot, going to eight energy, and passed back. Andrew sent in the Ulamog and exiled the top 20 from Jim, prompting Jim to chump with a spider token. Andrew shipped the turn back after adding a new copy of Marvel and a Vessel and said, “Don’t do it to me.”
Jim didn’t do it, instead he played Tormenting Voice and jokingly played his own Ulamog, leading Andrew to do the same as Jim scooped up his permanents.

Jim went to five on the play and kicked things off with an Evolving Wilds to Andrew’s first-turn Vessel. Jim fetched an Island at the end step, untapped, and played Servant of the Conduit. Andrew matched with his own Servant but Jim shot it down with Harness Lightning on his next turn while he missed his third land drop. Andrew played another land and another Vessel before shipping the turn back. Jim used Attune with Aether to get some energy and find a copy of a Mountain and played it before adding a Puzzleknot to his board. Andrew cracked a Vessel at the end of the turn, getting Aetherworks Marvel.
Andrew added his fourth land to his board, but did not go for the Marvel, passing with his mana up. Jim resolved a Tireless Tracker and added a land to his board, netting a clue before passing, prompting Andrew to crack a Vessel and pick an Aether Hub off the reveals. Andrew played the Hub and went for Chandra, Torch of Defiance and used her to kill the Tracker before passing. Jim killed Chandra with an attack from his Servant and used Attune with Aether to get a Mountain and passed after adding it his board.
Andrew had his own copy of Attune, grabbing an Island, and shipped the turn, leading Jim to crack his Puzzleknot, going up to 11 energy. Jim attacked Andrew to 18 and passed the turn back. Andrew found an Aether Hub and went to six energy before playing his Marvel, which resoled. Andrew spun the wheel and found only a Puzzleknot to attempt to load up for another spin on his next turn. Andrew had nothing else and passed, while Jim attacked for two and played another Puzzleknot. Andrew cracked his, going to 22 and seven energy.
Andrew used his Marvel again, this time finding Emrakul and passed as Jim went to 32 after cracking the Puzzleknot. Andrew made Jim attacked his Servant into Emrakul and end the turn with a land and Chandra in hand. Jim took his next turn and played Chandra, which got hit by Negate and Jim could only pass back. Andrew attacked for 13 and played a post-combat World Breaker, hitting Jim’s Island and passed the turn.
Jim played on by adding a Servant and a land to his board, preparing for another big swing from Andrew. Andrew sent his Eldrazi into the red zone. Jim took it all, doing to one and Andrew passed after playing a land. Jim took a draw, tapped his lands, and played an Aether Hub, extending the hand and said, “I hope you win.”
