It was a record smashing weekend at the StarCityGames.com Open-Indianapolis! The Legacy event saw the old attendance record smashed by 50+ players! And if you had told the nearly 300 competitors this morning that a Monoblack Control and Goblin deck would make the Top 8, most of them would tell you you were crazy. But you wouldn't have been.
Craig Wostratzky didn't let an odd deck choice slow him down on his way to the Top 8 ranked first out of the Swiss. And Nick Montaquila wasn't afraid to run the red tribe of Goblins on his way to the Top 8. But the two weren't meant to take the title. Instead, it was Chris Woltereck's day to shine. Playing his third Legacy event with 43 Land, Chris made it to a 100% Top 8 ratio with the deck. His latest version gutted the red cards for Intuition and a heavier reliance on Academy Ruins and Tolaria West. That innovation proved to be the key for his success as he Mindslaver locked opponent after opponent.
Chris Woltereck is your 2010 StarCityGames.com Legacy Open-Indianapolis champion!

Friday, March 12th - While Extended is largely a format in which a variety of strategies can flourish, it seems that Zoo and Dark Depths are a touch overpowering. However, if you dig a little deeper, there is gold to be found. Brian Kibler examines a selection of interesting Extended lists that are currently flying under the radar…
About Brian Kibler: Brian Kibler is a one-time Pro Player who is getting back into the game. He has multiple Top 8 finishes at the PT, GP, and Nationals level, including three wins. Recently, he made Top 8 at PT: Honolulu, and he won the latest Extended Pro Tour in Austin, Texas.
Friday, March 12th - The more Standard changes, the more it stays the same. With the StarCityGames.com Standard Open in Indianapolis this coming Saturday, the world is poised to see how many Jund decks make the Top 8. Manuel Bucher played Jund at Pro Tour: San Diego, and today he takes us through his tournament games and sideboarding strategies.

Friday, March 12th - With the StarCityGames.com Standard Open this Saturday, eyes are turned to the more popular Standard decks in the metagame: Boss Naya, U/W Control, and (of course) Jund. However, Craig Wescoe believes that his White Weenie build, recently seen in the Top 8 of Pro Tour: San Diego, could be the strategy that takes home the bacon. Do you agree?
About Craig Wescoe: Craig Wescoe has been involved in competitive Magic for over a decade, having competed in more than a dozen Pro Tours and a pair of Grand Prix Top 8s. Since his recent return to competitive Magic he finished 99th at PT Honolulu, 37th at Worlds and 4th at PT San Diego.
Monday, March 5th - Hello again everybody, it's just past midnight, we're up late and waiting for some goodness so let's get to those spoilers. No need for bumpers, there's Rise of the Eldrazi and we need to see something new and sexy. Let's go!
Monday, March 15th - The first batch of Rise of the Eldrazi spoilers are here, and we’ve got ‘em! All in all, I have six cards to review, and I’ll give you my thoughts on each of them in general and then, of course, how they’ll play in the Greatest Format Known to Man.
Monday, March 15th - What does it mean for a card to be powerful? Is Bloodbraid Elf powerful? Is Vampire Hexmage powerful? Is Thopter Foundry powerful? Is Nettle Sentinel powerful? Each of those cards has been and will continue to be staples of decks that have dominated formats.
Monday, March 15th - A little over a year ago, when I started writing for this website, I actually thought about giving up the game again. My Extended PTQ results were awful, and any time I lost a game while at a PTQ, booster draft, or playing FNM, I beat myself up, badly. I felt obligated to do well as a writer, embarrassed by misplays, and under a lot of pressure to do “something” with the game
Friday, March 12th - Hello everybody, and welcome to another edition of the Magic Show. This week we're taking a look at Worldwake Standard, the breakout stars from Pro Tour: San Diego to the upcoming release of Rise of the Eldrazi and some wicked spoilers. Let's go!
Friday, March 12th - If you are not playing Dredge in Legacy, you are doing it unbelievably wrong. The deck routinely deploys 9/9s on turn 2 or 3 and brings some number of 2/2s to the party for value. While doing this, you get to Cabal Therapy your opponent two or three times, and if for some reason that isn't good enough, you also have unlimited 3/1s that leave Zombies behind when they die.
Friday, March 12th - Last week I talked about the Standard deck I ran at the StarCityGames.com Open in Richmond, but I didn’t go over what I had planned for Legacy. Since I’ve never actually played in a Legacy tournament before, it will probably come as no surprise that I wasn’t sure what I wanted to play. However, I did have something I wanted to try – bringing landfall to Legacy.
Friday, March 12th - Four hundred and some players sat down for round one, and every one had a story to tell. We go inside the Day 1 numbers, and highlight some of the tales from the first PT of the 2010 season. How did your favorite Pros get on?
