Coldsnap Common Print Runs
I was curious how Wizards had organised the commons in order to ensure that each booster had a very good chance at containing a Snow-Covered Land. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the print run online… so I sat down with two boxes of product and a large table. A few hours later, I had gleaned the following and create a bit of a mess!
Each pack contains eleven commons, split into six from list A and five from list B. List A is normally found first, if you are looking at the booster face up. Each card occurs twice in one section or the other. It is interesting that the bulk of the better cards (although card power is flatter than normal for this set) are in list A, with only Skred, Into The North and Ronom Unicorn of note in list B. The foil commons I found replaced cards from the either section. For example, boosters containing a foil Snow-Covered Land may still have six “list A” cards and four “list B” cards.
Snow-Covered Lands occur at regular intervals down list A, thus giving a very good chance of any given booster containing one such land.
As each card occurs twice, to determine if a given card is missing you need to look for pairs of cards that flank the card taken.
Here's an example, using Skred.
Martyr of Bones – Skred - Frostweb Spider
Krovikan Scoundrel – Skred - Auroch Herd
So if you see Martyr of Bones and a Frostweb Spider, or Krovikan Scoundrel and an Auroch Herd, the guy took a Skred.
The uncommon print run appears to be a single list, with all cards occurring twice… although I have nowhere near enough information to complete this. I was not on the MTGO Beta for Coldsnap, so I don't know if these are mirrored online, but it is normally the case that MTGO follows the paper print sequences.
