Pick 1: This pick was tough. I like Inversion because it’s the only Black card in the pack, but I took the Cloudgoat because it’s so much more powerful, and I’m a big fan of White cards.
Pick 33: I don’t really know how good the Throng is. It seems very powerful, but I like the consistency provided by the Cricket.
A few picks into this draft I was really regretting taking the Cloudgoat Ranger, but that turned around when I got so many good Kithkin cards in packs 2 and 3. I chose to leave out Jace because it’s only exceptional on turn 3, and even then only when going first, and I didn’t want to make that much of a sacrifice to my manabase since my deck was almost exclusively White cards.
Round 1 I played against a solid Green Red deck. In the first game I had a pretty good draw, and thought I was going to absolutely crush him, until he blew me out on turn 4 with Rival’s Duel on my Cricket and Fallowsage. I didn’t have a chance after that. Game 2 his draw was slower and I hit the Kinship with Kithkin Zephyrnaut a couple of times, and was able to put too much pressure on him before his Wren’s Run Vanquisher could take over the game. Game 3 he missed his second land drop, but was able to stay ahead the whole game with the Red Banneret on turn 2, followed by two Battlewand Oaks and an Ambassador Oak. I was barely able to race by making good use of Neck Snap, Whirlpool Whelm, and Pestermite.
Round 2 I played a very poor Green Red deck and his mediocre creatures couldn’t stand up to my Kithkin. I had Hillcomber Giant to finish him off game 1, and Cloudgoat Ranger game 2.
My opponent wouldn’t split the finals and absolutely crushed me with a great Goblin deck. My draws were slow and his were very good, but this was a match I was unlikely to win regardless.
Until tomorrow,
Rich
