2nd Pick: I figured the guy on my right took Shriekmaw since an uncommon was missing, and Vigor is just too much better than the Giant or Harrier to take either of them. I could take Ending with the intention of splashing it, but there isn’t really a reason to not take Vigor.

6th Pick: Perhaps I should’ve gone Black here, but there was still a reasonable card for me, and I couldn’t think of another card that the dude on my right could’ve taken first.

8th Pick: I’m still not sure about Hearthcage versus Axegrinder. I used to always take Axegrinder, but recently every time I’ve had Hearthcage I’ve been happy with it, and Lunk Errant replaces Axegrinder quite well.

I didn’t play the Deathrender because it’s so slow. I figured that most of the time I’m going to spend six mana to do something I’d rather use it to just play monsters. If I were to play it I’d want to keep 18 lands in my deck and cut a big Giant for it, but then the Crush Underfoot becomes worse etc.

Round 1 I played against a Merfolk deck. In the first game I had Banneret on turn 2, and Stinkdrinker turn 3. From there I played Giant Harbinger and chained one mana Changeling Berserkers which he had a lot of trouble handling. Game 2 he held me off for a couple of turns with Harpoon Sniper until I could get two Giants into play to be safe when I Crushed it. With the Sniper gone he couldn’t stop my dudes.

Round 2 I played against a good Faerie deck. Both games were very similar. I played turn 2 Knight of Meadowgrain, he played Pestermite on turn 3 and tapped a land, and I Kinsbaile Skirmishered the Knight both times. Then on turn 5 both games I had Burrenton Bombardier for the Knight when he blocked and used a trick like Stream of Unconsciousness or Peppersmoke. The games developed into races with his Faeries including Wydwen trying, and failing, to race my 4/4 Knight. In the first game I finished him off with Swell of Courage, and in the second I had four turns to draw a spell since he was at 1 and blocking with Fencer’s Clique every turn, while attacking with Wydwen. On the second turn I drew Chandra to finish him.

Round 3 I chose to play because I had some time to kill. In the first game he had a good start with Prickly Boggart, Stinkdrinker Bandit, and Marsh Flitter on turn 4. I didn’t put up much of a fight since I kept a five land hand I probably should’ve mulliganed, and continued to draw lands until I died. Game 2 I had a good draw and crushed him. Game 3 I kept fighting through Marsh Flitter, but he kept returning it with Footbottom Feast or Makeshift Mannequin. The game didn’t look very close, but I had a few turns to draw a sixth land and steal it with Lunk Errant and Swell of Courage to make a 9/9 trampler. I didn’t draw it and the Marsh Flitter dealt me about 16 damage.
