Rules Tip of the Day: Auras (formerly "local enchantments") are controlled by the player who played the enchantment spell, or by whoever is specified by the effect that put the Aura into play. In other words, just because an Aura is enchanting a permanent you control does not mean that you control the Aura.
Q: If there are two Ragged Veins on my Kami of the Hunt, and it is dealt two damage, do I lose 2 or 4 life from the Ragged Veins?
A: You will end up losing four life; two for each of the Ragged Veins on this enchanted creature. The ability from each enchantment will trigger and resolve independently, causing you to lose 2 life each time.
Q: If I have Ghostly Prison in play, can my opponent attack with a creature that can't be the target of spells or abilities, without paying 2?
A: No. Ghostly Prison's ability does not target anything. Your opponent will still need to pay 2 mana in order for this untargetable creature to attack you.
Q: If I play Enduring Ideal (preventing me from playing spells for the rest of the game due to its Epic ability), and I put Hunting Grounds into play via Enduring Ideal, can I then put creature cards from my hand into play if my opponent plays a spell, or does Enduring Ideal prevent me from doing this?
A: Enduring Ideal will not prevent you from putting creature spells into play in some manner other than playing them. So yes, you can put creature cards into play when Hunting Grounds' triggered ability resolves, even though you cannot play spells due to the effect generated by the Epic ability.
Q: Is it possible to play Radiate on Carnial Extraction? If yes, could I target every card I can think of he has in his deck?
A: While is is possible to play Radiate to make copies of a Cranial Extration, you'll only get one additional copy in a one on one game. This is because Cranial Extraction targets players and not cards. If you did this, then a copy of Cranial Extraction would go on the stack targeting whichever player was not targeted with the original Cranial Extraction. So if you are Radiating your opponent's Extraction, you'll get to Extract him, but if it's your own Cranial Extraction, you'll name a nonland card and search your own hand, library, and graveyard. Note that (as with any Cranial Extraction) if you Extract yourself, you must find any copies that are in the graveyard (as it is a public zone), but you are not required to find copies in your hand or library, and you don't have to reveal those zones to your opponent.
Q: If I have Arcbound Overseer, and it's my only creature with modular, do I still put a +1/+1 counter on it during my upkeep, or is it each other creature with modular?
A: The Overseer will get a counter when its own upkeep triggered ability resolves. If it only affected other modular creatures you controlled it would state, "put a +1/+1 counter on each other creature with modular you control."
Q: Can you sacrifice Grinding Station to itself to pay for the ability?
A: Yes, there is nothing that prevents you from sacrificing the Station to pay that part of its own activated ability.
Q: I used Bounty Hunter to put a bounty counter on a Jareth, Leonine Titan. Then, the turn afterwards, it gained protection from black as part of its ability. Can I still use Bounty Hunter's ability to destroy it?
A: No. Both of Bounty Hunter's abilities target, and even though this creature does have a bounty counter on it, it can not be targeted by the ability of Bounty Hunter that destroys creatures. Keep in mind that this creature will still keep the bounty counter on it, even though it now has Protection from Black.
Q: I have Ghostly Flame in play. I play Terminate targeting my opponent's Iridescent Angel. He argued that Terminate wouldn't work, because it wasn't dealing damage to his creature. Would a "destroy" effect be considered colorless with Ghostly Flame?
A: No. Terminate does not deal damage, so Ghostly Flame will not affect it at all. Additionally, Ghostly Flame will not change the fact that Protection from Black or Red will prevent a permanent from being targeted by a source of that color, even if that source will deal damage. In this situation Terminate is still a black and red source, and therefore can not target an Iridescent Angel; the same would be true for Shock.
Q: This happened to me on Magic Online; I don't have any creature cards in my deck, and I have a token and Proteus Staff in play. I use the Staff, targeting the token. When the ability resolves the token is put onto the bottom of my library, but it is not there when the Staff tries to find it a little bit later. It has somehow disappeared before the ability has completely resolved. Shouldn't the token disappear only when the game checks for state based effects (after the Staff ability has completely resolved)?
A: Magic Online gets the outcome correct, though the details are slightly off. While this token creature still exists when put on the bottom of your library, and while revealing cards from library, Proteus Staff's ability specifically states that it puts a creature card into play, not a token creature. So the ability will resolve without putting anything into play, and then the token will cease to exist. Magic Online should show you the token as the last card revealed, but you should not be able to put it into play.
