Rules Tip of the Day: The "Epic effect" is not applied unless you have resolved an Epic spell. This means that if you play an Epic spell and it is countered, you will not be prohibited from playing further spells. It also means that after you play an Epic spell, but before it resolves, you can play other spells.
Q: What cards can the ability of Tallowisp get now? Can it get all Auras that enchant creatures?
A: You can use Tallowisp's ability to search for most of the cards that you used to. The current Oracle text for Tallowisp's triggered ability is "Whenever you play a Spirit or Arcane spell, you may search your library for an Aura card with enchant creature, reveal it, and put it into your hand. If you do, shuffle your library." When this ability resolves you can search for any aura enchantment that has the enchant creature ability. Keep in mind that an aura enchantment that has an ability that states "enchant creature you control" is different from one that says "enchant creature." Basically, you will not be able to search for any old local creature enchantment that had a restriction on what it could enchant.
Q: What happens if I Twincast Vampiric Tutor? Will I be able to put both of the searched for cards on top of my library?
A: No. If you target Vampiric Tutor with Twincast, when the Twincast copy resolves, you'll search your library for one card, shuffle your library and then put this card on top and lose two life. Assuming nothing else is played in-between these two Tutors resolving, then the original Tutor will resolve; you'll search again, shuffle your library, put this new card on top of your library, and lose two life. Because you shuffled your library when the original Tutor resolved the card you tutored for when the Twincast copy resolved will be shuffled into your library. So all that changed from playing just one Vampiric Tutor is that you lost two more life than normal and wasted a card in your hand. However, you can play some instant card drawing after the copy resolves and before the original does in order to draw the card you tutored for with the Twincast copy.
Q: What happens when I tap a Forest if both Heartbeat of Spring and Pulse of Llanowar are in play? My theory is that since both of them trigger off of a specific condition during activation (tapping the land is the activation cost, tapping it *for mana* triggers both of these), but Pulse of Llanowar's replacement effect only replaces the *effect* of tapping a (basic) land for mana, Heartbeat of Spring will only let me add one mana of the appropriate type for my Forest (green), and then the normal mana generation from tapping my Forest will be replaced by Pulse of Llanowar to let me have any color.
A: The ability of Heartbeat of Spring will add an additional mana based on what is produced, not necessarily based on what this land is normally able to produce. This means that if you tap a Forest and choose to have this Forest add red mana (because of the Pulse of Llanowar) you'll end up with two red mana in your pool, not one red and one green.
Q: I have a Quicksilver Fountain in play and there are a few lands with Flood counters on them. I play Mind Bend targeting the Fountain, and change all instances of the word "Island" into "Plains". Do the lands with Flood counters on them turn into Plains?
A: No. You may have changed the text on the Quicksilver Fountain, but you have not altered the effects generated by the Fountain's upkeep triggered ability in previous turns. Also keep in mind that because all instances of the word "Island" have been changed, Flood counters will not be removed from lands in play until all of them are Plains. This also means that you can place an additional Flood counter on a land in play that is an Island.
Q: If I play Fling, sacrificing a 15/15 Arcbound Ravager, with Mirari in play, and copy the spell, how much damage will the copy of Fling deal?
A: When a copy of a spell is put on the stack it is an exact copy of the original; you won't have to play any costs associated with this original. This means that the copy created by Mirari will deal 15 points of damage.
Q: I have a question about the card Farsight Mask. I have it in play, no cards in hand, and an Abyssal Specter attacks me. Which effect is going to happen first? I draw the card and then I discard it or I discard the card (which I don't have) and then draw a card?
A: When the Specter deals damage in this example the abilities of the Specter and the Farsight Mask will trigger at the same time. When multiple abilities trigger at the same time they go on the stack in APNAP (Active Player, Non-Active Player) order. This means that those controlled by the active player go on the stack in whatever order he wants, followed by those controlled by the non-active player in whatever order he wants. You are the defending player and therefore the non-active player, so the ability of your Farsight Mask will go on the stack last and resolve first before you have to discard.
Q: In a Two-Headed Giant game, am I allowed to see what my partner, the primary player, draws before I draw my card? If so, can I activate my Words of War to replace my draw, or use the ability of my Sensei's Diving Top after I have seen his draw but before I make mine?
A: No. Both players on the active team will draw their cards at the same time at the beginning of their shared draw step. You'll be able to see what each other draws, but as these draws occur simultaneously you won't be able to do anything or perform any action before you draw your card.
