Rules Tip of the Day: To help you prepare for the Ravnica prerealese this weekend you can read the rules FAQ here.
And because we now have the FAQ, I can start answering Ravnica questions, so here we go:
Q: When Followed Footsteps makes a copy of the enchanted creature, does this token copy have a Followed Footsteps on it? In other words will my creatures increase exponentially?
A: No. When a copy of a permanent in play is made effects, enchantments and equipment on the original are not copied. You end up with a normal unenchanted token copy.
Q: Can I use the ability of Searing Meditation multiple times when I gain more than 1 life? For example use Ghost-Lit Redeemer for 2 life and deal 4 damage.
A: No. The ability of Searing Meditation will trigger once when you gain life, not once for each point of life gained.
Q: If the new Ravnica dual lands would come into play tapped by some other means, such as a Patron of the Moon, can you pay 2 life to have them come into play untapped?
A: The coming into play abilities of the new Dual lands only affect how they come into play if you do not pay the 2 life. If you do not, then the land will come into play tapped. If you do, then nothing is changed. This means if the effect that is putting this land into play instructs you to put it into play tapped, it will come into play tapped even if you do pay the 2 life.
Q: If I have Circu, Dimir Lobotomist, and he dies, is it the case that the cards that he removed still cannot be played? The wording says, "cards that are removed by ~this~ cannot be played".
A: The ability of Circu that prevents cards from being played is separate from the ability that removes cards from the game. This means that your opponent will be prohibited form playing cards with the same name as the removed cards as long as Circu is in play. Once Circu leaves play, the restriction on playing those cards is lifted.
Q: My friend had two Doubling Seasons in play and one Symbiotic Elf. I burn the Elf. How do we apply the two Doubling Season effects? I argued that each Doubling Season is based on the effect that put the tokens into play originally. This meant that he would receive 6 insect tokens: 2 from Elf's ability, 2 from the first Doubling Season, and 2 more from the second Doubling Season. My friend argued that he gets 8 tokens: 2 from Elf's ability, 2 from the first Doubling Season, and 4 from the second Doubling Season. Who is correct?
A: Your opponent is correct. Doubling Season's ability creates a replacement effect. Anytime a relevant event occurs, each replacement effect will be applied separately. The first effect will double the two tokens your opponent would get and make it four, and the second effect will double this number to make it eight token creatures.
Q: I have a question regarding a flipped Erayo, Soratami Ascendant and Obliterate. Since Obliterate cannot be countered will it get through the Essence's of Erayo's trigger or will it be countered?
A: If this is the first spell played by an opponent of the controller of Erayo, then Erayo's ability will trigger. However as Obliterate can not be countered, Erayo's ability will do nothing when it resolves. So the Obliterate will resolve as normal.
Q: If Overabundance is in play and a player uses a 'tap, sacrifice: add mana' ability of a land (such as the Odyssey sac. lands like Ancient Spring), does he get the trigger for extra mana from the Overabundance (is that land being tapped for mana)? If so, does he choose which type the extra mana would be (in the case of Ancient Spring), or does he get an extra mana of each type provided?
A: Yes, Overabundance's ability will add an additional mana to this player's mana pool. It does not matter that the land is sacrificed as part of the cost. However it will only add one mana of that players choice. This is also how Heartbeat of Spring works.
Q: In a Two-Headed Giant game, can I target my teammate's Troll Ascetic with my own Rancor?
A: Yes; you are not your teammate's opponent, so you can target his Troll Ascetic with spells and abilities you control.
