Rules Tip of the Day: The Storm ability does not count copies of spells that have been put on the stack before the Storm spell is played, it only counts other spells that have been played. Keep in mind that when you play a copy of a card created by something like Isochron Scepter or Eye of the Storm's triggered ability you are playing a spell, so these will be counted by the Storm ability.
Q: I've read some articles on Ravnica cards where the author speaks about how good Hex can be thanks to new targeting rules. Can you explain these new rules? I can't figure it out.
A: The author of this article appears to be mistaken. This article you are referring to may be referring to the changes to the targeting rules that were made when Champions of Kamigawa was released. It used to be that an individual spell could not target the same object more than once under any circumstances. Then when Champions was released it was altered so you could target the same object once for each time a spell used the word "target." This way you could play an arcane spell, splice on the text of another spell and target the same object with both portions of this spell. Another more recent example would be that you can target the same creature up to three times with Seeds of Strength, as its text is the phrase "Target creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn." printed three times. However, Hex only uses the word target once. This means that you can only target a single creature once with Hex. In order to legally play Hex you need to target six different creatures in play.
Q: When do you choose which creature to equip when Grifter's Blade comes into play? Can my opponent respond by destroyed the creature before it becomes equipped?
A: You choose when the Grifter's Blade spell resolves. Your opponent can respond to the Grifter's Blade spell, but he won't know what creature you intend to equip.
Q: Can I use Master Warcraft during my opponent's turn to make him attack himself with his creatures?
A: No. Creatures can only attack the defending player, and the active player can not be the defending player.
Q: There is an Eye of the Storm in play and a few instants I own have already been removed from the game. Can I play Cunning Wish and get one of those cards? If so, will a copy of that card I Wish for go on the stack?
A: It can work that way if you want. When you play this Cunning Wish, the ability of Eye of the Storm will trigger. When this ability resolves, the Cunning Wish will be removed from the game. Then you'll be able to put a copy of Cunning Wish and the other cards that have previously been removed from the game on the stack. It does not matter what order you put these spells on the stack, a copy of the card you Wish for will already have been placed on the stack.
Q: I have Eye of the Storm in play. I play Early Harvest, and my opponent Hinders my Early Harvest with the Eye of the Storm trigger on the stack. When Hinder is removed and copied by Eye of the Storm, my opponent targets Early Harvest again and puts it on the bottom of my library. What happens when the first Eye of the Storm trigger resolves? Can it remove my Early Harvest card if it has been put on the bottom of my library?
A: Eye of the Storm's ability will not remove a card form the game if it is not on the stack when the triggered ability resolves. So your Early Harvest will stay on the bottom of your library. However the second portion of Eye of the Storm's triggered ability will take place. This means that all cards removed by Eye of the Storm, including the recently removed Hinder, will be copied and you can play these copies. If there are no legal spells on the stack for you to target with Hinder, then you can not play it.
Q: Can I use Glare of Subdual by tapping a creature that is enchanted by Faith's Fetters?
A: Yes. Faith's Fetters only prevents you from using the activated ability of the equipped creature. You can still tap this enchanted creature to pay the cost for another activated ability.
Q: If my opponent has Dominating Licid and I have a creature, and he activates the Licid's ability to take control of that creature, and in response to that I destroy the Licid with a Terror, does he still take control of the creature?
A: No. He will only gain control of this creature when and if it becomes enchanted with the Dominating Licid.
Q: In a multiplayer game, an opponent had Kokusho, the Evening Star. I was at 8 life, and the other two players were at 2 life. If he sacrifices Kokusho to an effect, does he gain the full 5 life from the other two shared opponents? I was thinking he would only gain 4 from them, plus 5 from me. How does this work?
A: This opponent will end up gaining 15 life. It does not matter that these two mutual opponent's only had 2 life left, Kokusho's leaves play triggered ability can still cause them to lose more life then they have. And because the amount of life gained is equal to the total amount life lost by all players, the controller of Kokusho will end up gaining 15 life.
