Rules Tip of the Day: Searing Meditation's ability only triggers once each time you gain life. So even if you gain multiple points of life at once, the Meditation's ability will only trigger once. In order to deal 2 points of damage to multiple targets you need to gain life over and over again.

Q: My opponent targets my tapped Bramble Elemental with Dream Leash. When the Dream Leash resolves, the Bramble Elemental's ability will trigger. However, we can't figure out who should get the token creatures from this triggered ability; me or the controller of the Dream Leash.

A: When the Dream Leash spell resolves two things will happen. Control of the Bramble Elemental will change and the Elemental's ability will trigger. Because control of the Elemental changed due to Dream Leash's static ability, your opponent is the controller of the Bramble Elemental when this ability triggers and therefore controller of the triggered ability. This means that he will not only get your Elemental, but the token creatures as well.

Q: If I use Enduring Ideal and get Mindmoil, will future copies of Enduring Ideal trigger the Mindmoil?

A: No. Mindmoil only triggers when you play a spell. When a copy of a spell is directly places on the stack, Mindmoil's ability will not trigger.

Q: My opponent has 4 life and I have 2 life when I play Char, targeting him. When it resolves, would that be considered a draw?

A: Yes. After Char has resolved state-based effects will be checked. At this point both you and your opponent will have a life total of zero, so the game will be a draw.

Q: Let's say Doubling Season is in play. I play Tetravus, and it comes into play with six +1/+1 counters. During my next upkeep I remove 5 of the counters which makes ten 1/1 Tetravite tokens. I then remove the ten tokens from the game to put 20 +1/+1 counters on my Tetravus. Can I repeat this process any number of times during my upkeep, or just once?

A: Your combo works, but you'll only be able to do it once per upkeep. Tetravus has an upkeep triggered ability that triggers just once at the beginning of your upkeep. If you want a combo that you can repeatedly use within a turn, try using Pentavus instead. Its abilities are activated abilities and are only limited by the amount of mana you have available.

Q: Sins of the Past states that if the targeted card would go to the graveyard that turn, to remove it from the game instead. What would happen in cases where it wouldn't hit the graveyard, like Buyback? Would that card come to your hand, or would it go back to the graveyard?

A: If you pay the Buyback cost of this card when you play the card you targeted with Sins of the Past, then this card will be returned to your hand and not removed from the game.

Q: At the start of my opponent's combat phase, I played and resolved Master Warcraft. Still before attackers were declared, he played and resolved Master Warcraft. Who gets to choose what creatures attack and how they block?

A: He will. The last Master Warcraft to resolve will determine who makes the decisions regarding attacking and blocking creatures for that turn.

Q: Will Pithing Needle stop a player from using the Dredge ability of the named card?

A: Dredge is not an activated ability, it is a static ability that creates a replacement effect that you can choose to take advantage of when you would draw a card. Choosing to apply this replacement effect is not an activated ability, so a Pithing Needle will not prevent a card's Dredge ability from being used.

Q: Can I pump up the ability of Golgari Rotwurm to deal multiple damage to my opponent before the creature gets sacrificed?

A: No. Golgari Rotwum's activated ability can be played as time as you can pay the activation cost of one black mana and sacrificing a creature. Each time you use this ability, the targeted player will lose one life. You cannot pay multiple black mana and sacrifice a single creature in order to make a player lose more than one life.

Q: My opponent has a Ground Seal in play, can I still use the first ability of Phyrexian Furnace because it says "target player's graveyard"?

A: Yes, you can use the first activated ability of Phyrexian Furnace. As you pointed out, this ability targets a player's graveyard and not a card. Ground Seal only prevents cards in graveyard from being targeted, so it will not prevent this first ability from being used. keep in mind that because Phyrexian Furnace's second activated ability does target a card in a graveyard, you will not be able to use this ability when Ground Seal is in play.

Q: If Gratuitous Violence is in play under my control and my Kokusho, the Evening Star hits the graveyard, will the effect be doubled by Gratuitous Violence? Will each opponent suffer 10 damage instead?

A: No. Kokusho's ability cause loss of lie; it does not deal damage. Gratuitous Violence only doubles damage that your creatures would deal, not the loss of life they cause.
