Rules Tip of the Day: The number of cards in a players library is public information. When asked you must either truthfully let your opponent know the number of cards in your deck or allow him to count them himself.

Q: How does Overblaze intereact with Festival of the Guildpact (or Healing Salve) and does the order each was cast/resolved matter, or if it's done before/after damage is stacked?

A: Overblaze creates a replacement effect and and those two damage prevention spells obviously create prevention effect. Whenever two or more replacement or prevention effects try to affect the same action, the affected player or controller of the affected permanent can choose which to apply first. Then if the others still apply those are applied as well. Assuming that the affected player is the one who played the damage prevention spell, then he can choose to prevent the damage before it is doubled.

Q: For us multi-player fanatics, does the Master Warcraft "choose which creatures attack this turn" effect include choosing which players the chosen attacking creatures attack?

A: No. Master Warcraft only allows you to choose what creatures are attacking, it does not allow you to make any other choices with respect to these attacking creatures.

Q: The following two questions revolve around this situation; I have in play Eye of the Storm. During my turn I play Brainstorm (1st spell), then I play Dark Ritual and finally Tendrils of Agony. Would the Storm ability trigger even when the original Tendrils is removed from the game by Eye of the Storm?

Let say the Storm does trigger, can I get the Storm count to 5 by stacking the copy of Brainstorm and Dark Ritual, or will it be a Storm count of 3 no matter how I stack them?

A: The Storm ability triggered when you played the Storm spell. It does not matter that the spell is removed from the stack, the ability will still resolve and create copies of itself for each spell played before the Tendrils that turn.

The Storm ability counts the number of spells that have been played before it was played; it does not matter how many spells have been played since the Storm spell was played. Also, with Eye of the Storm in play, you play the spell that triggered the Eye of the Storm and you play the copies of the removed card created Eye of the Storm's ability. This is because Eye of the Storm makes copies of cards that you then play; it does not put copies of spells directly on the stack. So in your example the first Storm triggered ability will make five copies, but when all is said and done you'll have a lot more then just five copies of Tendrils of Agony.

You are correct that the Storm count for the Tendrils of Agony that you initially played will be five, assuming that you played all copies of cards when Eye of the Storm's trigger resolved. This would be the original Brainstorm (1), the Brainstorm copy created by the Eye ability when the Brainstorm was played (2), Dark Ritual (3), and the copies of Brainstorm (4) and Dark Ritual (5) created by the Eye ability when the Dark Ritual was played.

As mentioned above we'll be adding to that because you do play the copy of Tendrils of Agony created by Eye of the Storm, and the Storm ability of that spell will also trigger. However the Storm count for this spell will depend on the order that you play copied spells when this Eye of the Storm triggered ability resolves. When you play this Tendrils of Agony it will be removed from the game and a copy of it and Brainstorm and Dark Ritual will be created for you to play. You can choose to play the Brainstrom and Dark Ritual copies before you play the Tendrils of Agony copy. If you do, you will raise the Storm count of this played copy to eight. This would be the original five spells listed above, the Tendrils of Agony (6) that triggered this Eye of the Storm triggered ability and the Brainstorm (7) and Dark Ritual (8) copies created by this triggered ability. So for a grand total with the Storm copies of the initial Tendrils of Agony, the storm count from the played copy and the played copy itself, you'll have 14 copies of Tendrils of Agony.

Q: The following is an example provided in a older version of the comprehensive rules:

Example: A player plays an artifact's ability that reads "{o2}: This permanent becomes a 3/2 artifact creature until end of turn." Later in the turn, the artifact creature is affected by an ability that reads "Target creature becomes 0/2 until end of turn." At this point, playing the ability of the artifact again won't do anything, because the type-changing ability must be applied before the continuous effect that just changes power and toughness. The artifact creature remains 0/2.

Am I correct in believing this no longer holds and the artifact creature would become 3/2 again?

A: That is correct. It used to be that when a permanent was animated you applied the effect that set this permanents power and toughness at the same time that you applied the the changing effect. Now you apply this effect later in the process when you apply all other effects that affect power and toughness. Both the power and toughness setting effects from the animation effect and this other effect that makes the creature a 0/2 creature will be applied in the same sublayer (6b). Because these effects are not dependent on one another, you apply them in timestamp order. AS the second use of the animation ability resolved last, its power and toughness setting effect will be applied last, making this creature a 3/2 creature.
