Rules Tip of the Day: The source of a triggered ability is the object that generated it. This is most often permanents, but spells can also generate delayed triggered abilities.
Q: If I play Faith's Fetters on one of my opponent's creatures, and then I play Flickerform on the same creature, can I activate Flickerform in order to gain another 4 life at the end of the turn when the creature and its enchantments re-enter play, or would Faith's Fetters prevent me from using the activated ability on Flickerform?
A: Faith's Fetter's only prevents activated abilities of the enchanted permanent from being played. Flickerform has its own ability, it does not give the ability to the enchanted creature. So yes, you can do what you want.
Q: If Primordial Sage is in play and you play Scatter The Seeds, do those three Saproling tokens that come into play count as creature spells? Would Primordial Sage allow you to then draw three cards?
A: No. Scatter the Seeds is an instant, not a creature spell. It does not matter that three creature tokens are put into play when Scatter the Seeds resolves. Primordial Sage's ability will not trigger.
Q: I have Attrition in play, and pay B and sacrifice a Black creature in order to destroy an opponent's creature. I also have Savra, Queen of the Golgari in play, whose sac ability triggers by this action, so the opponent has to sac a creature. What is the exact resolving order on the stack? Do I get to choose the order, have Attrition destroy a creature and then let him sac another? Or does Savra resolve first, so my opponent can choose to sac the creature I've targeted with Attrition?
A: Because Savra's ability triggered when you played Attrition's ability, the triggered ability will go on the stack second and resolve first. If you choose to pay the 2 life when Savra's triggered ability resolves your opponent can choose sacrifice the creature that you targeted with Savra's ability.
Q: Can I sacrifice a creature to my Golgari Guildmage to retrieve the same creature after I paid the activation cost?
A: No. When playing a spell or ability you choose all targets of an ability before you pay costs. So that does not work.
Q: If I were to attack with a creature equiped with Nemesis Mask, then tap a Wojek Embermabe equipped with Kusari-Gama to do one damage to each of his blocking creatures (assuming they are all the same color), Kusari-Gama would then do do damage equal to the number of blocking creatures to all his blocking creatures, right?
A: Yes, Wojek Embermage's ability will deal one point of damage to the targeted creature and each creature that shares a color with it, including any creatures you control that share a color with the targeted creature. The ability of Kusari-Gama will then trigger once for each of the blocking creatures that was dealt damage by the Embermage's ability. When these triggered abilities have all resolved, each creature your opponent controls (not just the ones blocking) will receive one point of damage for each blocking creature that received damage from the Embermage's ability.
Q: If I got it right, multiple instances of Defender on the same creature are redundant. So, if I attach Peregrine Mask to my Ageless Sentinels (still in wall-form) and then block with it, will I get a 4/4 flying Giant Bird with First Strike and without any instances of Defender, since its text now says "loses Defender"?
A: You are correct. Keep in mind that if this Peregrine Mask becomes detached from the Sentinels and then later reattached, it will regain Defender, making it unable to attack.
Q: Can Pithing Needle naming Food Chain stop the activation of Food Chain? I'm asking, because we couldn't decide if it was a mana ability or not, just on how it was worded.
A: Food Chain's ability is a mana ability. It may be a bit different from most, but it generates mana, so it is still a mana ability. Because of this, Pithing Needle cannot prevent that ability from being played.
Q: Our group frequently plays Emperor format. If someone casts Fact or Fiction, who chooses who will divide the cards? The card says, "an opponent..." Does the caster of the spell choose an opponent to make the piles or does the opposing team decide among themselves which of them will make the piles? What about in a three-team game? I ask because one fellow who likes to play Fact or Fiction generally chooses the opponent with the least experience to divide the cards, making it even better than it already is...
A: The controller of the Fact or Fiction can choose any one player on an opposing team. If you are playing with a range of influence, then he will have to choose an opponent that is within this range of influence. So yes, you can choose the player on the opposing team with the least amount of experience as long as he is within your range of influence.
