Rules Tip of the Day: You can only discard a card that is actually in your hand. There are many effects that allow you to play cards as though they were in your hand, but that does not mean they are in your hand.

Q: What happens if I play Followed Footsteps on a Morph (face down) creature?

A: As long as this enchanted creature remains face down, you will get generic 2/2 creatures at the beginning of each of your upkeep steps. If this enchanted creature is turned face up, then you will get copies of this face up version instead.

Q: If I have Blood Funnel in play and I cast Zombify with Boseiju, Who Shelters All mana, what will happen to the spell?

A: Due to the fact that mana from Boseiju was spent on this spell, it will resolve as normal. Blood Funnel's triggered ability will be prevented from countering this spell.

Q: If I have Gleancrawler and Sneak Attack out, and during my turn I bring out a creature using Sneak Attacks's ability, at the end of my turn when I sac the creature, can I bring it back to my hand with the Gleancrawler's ability?

A: Yes. Because these two abilities trigger at the same time and you are the controller of both abilities, you can determine the order that these two abilities go on the stack. What you want to do it put the Gleancrawler's ability on the stack first, so it will resolve last. If you do, then the creature that you put into play via Sneak Attack will be sacrificed first, and then returned to your hand when Gleancrawler's ability resolves.

Q: If I were to play Pollenbright Wings on an opponent's creature, who would get the 1/1 tokens under their control: my opponent or me?

A: Pollenbright Wings does not give the triggered ability to the enchanted creature. As you are the controller of the enchantment, you are the controller of this triggered ability. So you will end up getting the 1/1 token creatures whenever this enchanted creature deals combat damage to a player.

Q: When Fangren Firstborn attacks, it puts a +1/+1 counter on each attacking creature. A friend used it with Gustcloak Runners and Gustcloak Harriers. When I blocked his Runner, he would remove them from combat, but still keep the counters. If they are removed from combat, then they never really attacked, right?

A: What your friend does is correct. Fangren Firstborn's ability triggers when it is declared as an attacking creature. This triggered ability will go on the stack and resolve before blockers are declared. It does not matter if a creature is later removed from combat, it will keep any counters it got when Fangren Firstborn's ability resolved. Removing a creature from combat does not mean that it was never attacking.

Q: If I have a Synod Sanctum in play, could I use its ability over a good number of turns to build up the Removed From Game pile, cast Dimenional Breach to remove everything from play in order to bring the Sanctum back first, so I can sac it off and return all cards that I removed with the Sanctum originally? Or could I just sac it off as everything is being removed from game, returning all the cards removed with the Sanctum to play, while everything else is removed with the Dimensional Breach?

A: What you want to do does not work. If you respond to Dimensional Breach by sacrificing the Sanctum, then the cards that were removed by the Sanctum's ability will be removed from the game by the Dimensional Breach. If you allow the Sanctum to be removed from the game and then return it in a later turn it will be treated as a new Synod Sanctum with no connection to the one that was in play earlier in the game. In other words, it will not be able to return the card that were removed from the game by the first Sanctum.

Q: How exactly does Mana Cache work? Can my opponent steal all the counters? And if so, is there any way to protect them?

A: Yes, a player can remove any number of counters from Mana Cache during their turn. There is no way to prevent this, short of destroying Mana Cache.

Q: My friend is playing a 240-card Battle of Wits deck, complete with 15 card sideboard. When he sideboards, can he take out 195 cards and add in the 15 cards, thus making it a 60 card deck? I believe it is illegal; it has been my understanding that you can only take out cards if you put the same number back in. E.g., take out 15 and put in 15.

A: No, that is not legal. In Constructed play, you can only sideboard cards in and out on a one-to-one basis. This means that at most he'll be able to side in 15 cards, and side out 15 cards. If sideboards are used, at the start of each game a players sideboard must have exactly 15 cards in it.
