Rules Tip of the Day: There is no such thing as playing something "as though it were in your hand." Older cards may been printed with such wording, but it is not used any longer. You can either play something or you cannot. In most cases, in order to play something, it must come from your hand, but some effects allow you to play cards from other zones.
Q: If my friend plays Master Warcraft and decides that none of my creatures can block this turn, and after he declares attackers, I use Meloku, the Clouded Mirror to bring in tokens, can those tokens block his creatures?
A: No. Master Warcrat gives its controller the ability to choose which creatures block this turn. This choice if made when blocking creature are declared, not when Master Warcraft resolves. So it does not matter if creatures enter play after Master Warcraft resolves.
Q: What is the interaction between Phytohydra and the Kamigawa Snakes, specially Matsu-Tribe Sniper and also Sosuke, Son of Seshiro?
A: I assume you mean that the Phytohydra is blocked by or blocks one of those two creatures. In both instances, Phytohydra's ability will replace what happens when these creatures would deal damage. Because no damage is dealt, the abilities of Matsu-Tribe Sniper and Sosuke, Son of Seshiro will not trigger.
Q: I have a question about Solarion and Doubling Season. If I tap Solarion for its effect to "double the +1/+1" counters, does Doubling Season activate and also double the counters, basically quadrupling the amount of counters?
A: First of all, Doubling Season has a replacement effect that is applied when applicableĀit is not an activated ability. But yes, Doubling Season's replacement effect will be applied when Solarion's activated ability resolves. But you won't quadruple the number of counter on Solarion, you'll triple the number of counters on it. So if Solarion started with three counters, it will end up getting an additional six counters when its ability resolves.
Q: If I play Probe and pay the kicker, and I have Circu, Dimir Lobotomist on the board, does my opponent remove two cards from the game?
A: No. Even though the kicker cost of Probe requires Black mana, that does not make it a Black spell. In this example, Probe is just a Blue spell, so only Circu's first ability will trigger.
Q: When you play Wood Elves, can you choose to find any dual land (Ravnica or otherwise) with Forest in the type line, or only cards named Forest?
A: You can search for any land that has the sub-type of Forest, not just basic lands. So yes, you can search for a dual land with that land type.
Q: Regarding Quicksilver Fountain, if a land, such as Tundra, has a Land Type - Plains Island, does a player put a Flood counter on the Tundra targeting the Plains aspect of it? Or are they not obliged to place a counter at all, since the land does have Island listed as one of its types?
A: Because a Tundra and several of the other dual lands (both old and new) have "Island" as one of their subtypes, they are therefore not non-Islands. This means that they cannot be targeted by Quicksilver Fountain's upkeep triggered ability.
Q: If I turn a Mishra's Factory into a creature, does Ronin Warclub become attached to it?
A: No. This Mishra's Factory is not a creature coming into play, it is a permanent in play becoming a creature. The Warclub's ability will not trigger.
Q: If a player chooses to use Abundance's ability, and not draw a card, what happens if there are no cards of the named type left in the deck? In one of our games, my friend had only Forests left in his deck, and continuously chose "non-land" with Abundance so that he wouldn't deck out. Is this legal, or is he forced to draw a card when the named type can't be found?
A: Yes, he can do that. Because he cannot reveal a non-land card, the ability will do as much as possible, and then put the revealed card on the bottom of his library.
Q: How does a draw created by Greater Good and Plagiarize interact? For example, my opponent has Greater Good and a 5/5 creature in play. He sacrifices this creature to Greater Good, and in response to Greater Good's ability, I play Plagiarize. Do I draw five cards and he discards three cards? The discard part doesn't seem to be dependant on the drawing. Is this correct?
A: Yes, you are correct. While you are "stealing" these draws, the remainder of the effect is still applied to your opponent, so he will have to discard three cards.
