Rules Tip of the Day: A creature with the ability that it "can block as though it has flying" does not gain the flying ability when blocking. When determining the legality of blockers, you just treat it as if it does.
Q: There's been some confusion regarding the new land card Nivex, Aerie of the Firemind; if you remove the instant or sorcery from the top of your library from the game with its ability, do you still have to pay that spell's mana cost?
A: Yes, you still have to pay any costs associated with playing the revealed instant or sorcery. Nivix, Aerie of the Firemind allows you to play this card until your next turn. However, it does not state that you may play it without paying it's mana cost.
Q: On my opponent's turn I cast Quicken, and then cast a sorcery with Replicate. Will the spell still get copied and resolve normally?
A: Yes. Quicken will allow you to play this sorcery. It does not matter that the sorcery has Replicate; the Replicate copies will still go on the stack and resolve normally.
Q: When you have played Quicken, can you use abilities of creatures that say "play this ability anytime you could play a sorcery", like Ghost Lit Stalker?
A: No. Quicken only allows you to play actual sorcery cards; it does not change when you can use activated abilities that can only be played when you can normally play a sorcery.
Q: Through some convoluted scenario I don't feel like making up, I have a 1/1 colorless Spirit token, a 1/1 flying White Spirit token, and a 3/3 flying White Spirit token in play. My opponent casts Leyline of Singularity. Are all my unique tokens toast?
A: Yes. It does not matter that the some of the characteristics of these tokens are different; they all have the name Spirit, and all are Legendary due to the Leyline. All of them will go to the graveyard, and then cease to exist, when state-based effects are checked.
Q: I am wondering whether the game remembers what color mana was spent to play a creature when Flicker effects—like Otherworldly Journey—remove a creature from the game and then return it. If I played Shrieking Grotesque and spent B, and later Otherworldly Journey it, will the come-into-play ability trigger based on what was originally spent to play it, or will it just check to see B was spent to put it into play?
A: When this Shrieking Grotesque comes back into play, its ability will not trigger. This is because when a permanent leaves play, and the card later returns, it is treated as an entirely new object. It does not matter if Black mana was paid when this card was initially played; no mana was paid when came back into play.
Q: If there are multiple attack phases in a turn, does Master Warcraft allow me to assign attackers and blockers for all of them?
A: Yes, Master Warcraft's effect is applied to all combat phases in the turn in which it resolves.
Q: I play Accumulated Knowledge and there are none in any graveyard. When this AK resolves, I chose to replace this draw by Dredging a card. When I Dredge, a copy of Accumulated Knowledge is put in my graveyard. Will I draw a card?
A: Yes. When Accumulated Knowledge resolves, you first draw a card, and then draw cards equal to the number of Accumulated Knowledges in all graveyards. If a copy of Accumulted Knowledge goes to the graveyard before you draw for the number of Accumulated Knowledges in all graveyard, then you will factor this new Accumulated Knowledge in, and draw an additional card. However, once you start drawing cards equal to the number of Accumulated Knowledges, changing the number of Accumulated Knolwedges in graveyards will not change the number of cards drawn.
Q: If I control Teferi's Puzzle Box, and I play Plagiarize during my opponents upkeep, how does it resolve? Does my opponent still put his hand on the bottom of the library, and just not get to draw any cards?
A: Yes, that is exactly what happens. When Teferi's Puzzle Box's ability resolves, your opponent's current hand will go to the bottom of his library and you will draw cards equal to the number of cards he put down there. This is because the Plagiarize only changes the draw portion of the Puzzle Box's effect; it does not change who puts their hand on the bottom of their library.
Q: In a game of Two-Headed Giant, can Firestorm do essentially double damage, by targeting two players on one team? There is one life total, so are you targeting the one life total, or the two players?
A: Yes, that works. Firestorm can target players, and it does not target a life total. You can choose each member of the opposing team as one of the targets of Firestorm.
