Rules Tip of the Day: Once attached to a permanent, Auras (once called local enchantments) do not target. This means that making the enchanted permanent untargetable will not cause the enchantment to fall off and go to the graveyard.
Q: If I play the Fire side of Fire / Ice, can I use Izzet Guildmage's ability to copy the Ice side of the spell?
A: When on the stack, this will be just a Fire spell. So no, you cannot target this spell with Izzet Guildmage's ability to make a copy of Ice. However, you can make a copy of the Fire on the stack.
Q: If I have Soul Warden in play, can I block an attacking creature with Aetherplasm, return it to my hand and keep replacing the AEtherplasm with another in my hand, over and over again, to gain an arbitrary amount of life?
A: No, that does not work. Any creature that is put into to play with Aetherplasm's ability is put into play blocking. This creature doesn't come into play and then become a blocking creature. Because of this, an Aetherplasm put into play in this manner will not have its ability trigger.
Q: During my opponent's end of turn, I activate my Temporal Aperture and flip up a creature. Can I cast it, even though I an normally only allowed to cast creatures (and sorceries and other permanents) during my main phase? Or does Temporal Aperture let me do that?
A: No, you cannot play the creature. Temporal Aperture allows you to play the card despite the fact that it is in your hand, and without paying mana costs. It doesn't change the rules that govern when you can play this card. So no, you can't play this card during your opponent's end of turn step.
Q: I control Night Dealings. If I attacked with multiple creatures, would I get counters on Night Dealings for all those creatures that dealt damage, or just one of them?
A: Each one of those creatures is an individual source, so you will get multiple counters on the Night Dealings as long as each creature deals damage to another player.
Q: Is it possible to change the word "Island" on Boil to "Mountain" or "Plains" with Mind Bend or Alter Reality?
A: You cannot use Mind Bend, as Mind Bend can only target permanents and not spells. Alter Reality also does not work as you can only use it to change color words. However, you could use a card like Crystal Spray, which can change the basic land words that appear on spells.
Q: Darkwater Egg (once broken) adds UB to my mana pool, then allows me to draw a card. Can I respond to the card drawing effect by playing Vampiric Tutor using the Egg's black mana, and then let the drawing effect resolve?
A: No. The entire ability of Darkwater Egg is a mana ability that does not use the stack. When you tap and sacrifice this Egg you will get UB added to your mana pool and draw a card immediately.
Q: If Insidious Bookworms is in my graveyard, and my opponent has no cards in his hand, can I make him discard the card he draws before he plays it, as long as it isn't an instant?
A: No, that does not work. Insidious Bookworms' ability only triggers when it goes to the graveyard. You can only choose to pay 1B and cause your opponent to discard a card at random when this triggered ability resolves. You cannot use this ability just because the Bookworm is in your graveyard.
Q: I have the following cards in play: Gloom, Yawgmoth's Edict, and Eight-And-A-Half Tails. My opponent plays a non-White spell. Can I activate my Tails's ability to make his spell White in order to make him lose one life and make his spell cost three more? If he couldn't pay the additional three, will his spell get countered?
A: No, that does not work. Yawgmoth's Edict's ability triggers when the announcement of a White spell is completed. Making a spell that has been played White will not trigger this ability. Similarly Gloom makes white spell costs more; making a spell White after it has been paid for will not retroactively cause this spell to cost more. A spell that is made White in a situation like this will resolve as normal.
