Rules Tip of the Day: A single spell or ability can only target a single permanent or player once for each use of the word target in a card's text.
Q: I play Blind Hunter, and it's comes-into-play trigger resolves. The Hunter soon dies, and I remove it from the game Haunting an opponent's creature. Can I use Living Wish to bring the Hunter back to my hand, replay it, sacrifice it, and then choose to Haunt another of my opponent's creatures, leaving both creatures Haunted by the same creature?
A: No, that does not work. When a Haunt creature leaves the removed from game zone, it no longer Haunts the creature that it targeted with its leaves-play triggered ability.
Q: I was wondering if Teysa, Orzhov Scion and Skeletal Vampire work together. Would sacrificing a Bat token to the Vampire's first activated ability trigger Teysa's effect of bringing an additional Spirit token into play, along with two other Bats?
A: Yes, that works. With both Teysa and a Skeletal Vampire in play, you will end up with a 1/1 white Spirit token, and two 1/1 Black Bat tokens, all of which will have flying.
Q: How exactly does Horobi, Death's Wail affect Haunt cards? For example, if I play Cry of Contrition targeting my opponent, and it resolves, will the Haunt effect cause them to discard another card, or will the ability be countered, since the creature that I target dies as soon as I target it?
A: Yes. The Haunt effect will become countered on resolution, as Horobi's ability will destroy the targeted creature. This is becaue Horobi's ability will trigger when you put the Haunt triggered ability on the stack, and it will resolve before the Haunt ability does.
Q: I'm just wondering, does Pandemonium work together with creatures with Bloodthirst?
A: It depends on what you mean. Because the Pandemonium ability triggers when a creature comes into play, the Pandemonium ability will not be able to deal damage to an opponent before you determine if this creature gets Bloodthirst counters. However, if damage has been dealt to an opponent this turn, then a Bloodthirst creature will come into play with the counter and you will factor this in when determining the amount of damage that the Pandemonium ability will deal to the targeted creature or player.
Q: When I search for one of the Ravnica duals with an Onslaught fetchland, does it come into play tapped unless I pay two points of life?
A: It will come into play tapped unless you pay 2 life. The replacement effect from the new dual will apply regardless of how the land came into play. Note that paying two life won't help you override another instruction (like that on Rampant Growth) that tells you to put the land into play tapped.
Q: My opponent was at two life, with a Dark Confidant equipped with Umezawa's Jitte, which had one counter on it. On his turn, he revealed Putrefy with the Confidant's ability, and removed the counter from the Jitte to gain two life, putting him at four life before he lost three from revealing the Putrefy. I didn't argue because he claimed you have to reveal the card first, then lose the life. Was this an illegal move?
A: That was not a legal play. When the Confidant's ability resolves, your opponent should have revealed the top card of his library, lost life equal to its converted mana cost, and put it into his hand. Then immediately after this ability resolved state-based effects would have been checked, and your opponent would have lost the game, as his life total was below zero. Once the Dark Confidant's ability started to resolve, it was too late for him to gain life. In order to survive he would have had to activate the Jitte's ability before the Confidant's ability resolved and before he knew how much life he would lose.
Q: If Ichorid is in my graveyard at the beginning of my upkeep with no other creature, can I stack that ability and then use Bazaar of Baghdad to dig for a Black creature to remove from the game to the Ichorid ability?
A: Yes. Ichorid's ability will trigger at the beginning of your upkeep regardless of whether or not there are other Black creatures in your graveyard to remove. If you can find a way to get a Black creature into your graveyard before this triggered ability resolves, then you can remove it from the game in order to put Ichorid into play.
Q: I am at one life, and I control Trained Armodon. My opponent attacks me with a 6/6 trampler. I play Test of Faith targeting my Elephant. Where does the damage go, and when exactly does the Elephant get the counters?
A: When combat damage is assigned, your opponent must assign at least three points of damage to the blocking Armodon and can choose to assign up to three points of damage to you. When combat damage is dealt, the damage to the Armodon will be prevented, and it will get three counters, due to the Test of Faith. However, assuming that at least one point of damage was assigned to you, then your life total will go to zero or below at the same time that the Armadon gets its +1/+1 counters. So unless your opponent chooses to assign all 6 points of damage to your blocking Armadon, you will lose the game.
