Rules Tip of the Day: The declaration of attackers and declaration of blockers does not use the stack. While you can play spell and abilities after these game actions have taken place, you cannot respond to these declarations in the normal Magic sense.
Q: I have Djinn Illuminatus out and I play Ribbons of Night, spending Blue mana to pay for it, and I Replicate it. Do I draw a card for the copy? Does it matter if I spent Blue on the replicate cost?
A: No, you will not draw a card, even if you spend Blue mana on the Replicate cost. This is because the Replicate ability puts a copy of the Replicated spell on the stack without playing it. You do not play this spell at all, so you could not have paid any mana to play it.
Q: I have a creature in play enchanted with a Magemark. I now enchant that creature with another Magemark of a different color. Does my creature get +1/+1 or +2/+2?
A: This creature will get a total of +2/+2, as the bonus from each of the Magemarks will be applied to this enchanted creature. Be aware that this creature would get +2/+2 even if you enchanted a different creature you control with this second Magemark.
Q: Is X included, when an X spell is on the stack, in its converted mana cost? For example, casting Parallectric Feedback on Stroke of Genius: would it deal X + 3 (for the CMC on Stroke) or just 3?
A: When on the stack, the value of "X" in the mana cost of a spell is equal to whatever was chosen when the spell was played. This means that the converted mana cost of a Stroke of Genius where the value of X is four will be seven. A Parallectric Feedback targeting this spell will cause the controller of the Stroke to receive seven points of damage.
Q: Can I target my own Ink-Treader Nephilim with Mortify, thenonce the copies are on the stackcould I counter the original spell and still destroy all other creatures?
A: Yes that does work. Ink-Treader Nephilim's ability triggers when it is targeted. This means that the copies will go on the stack before the original resolves. So you can counter the original and still have all of the other copies destroy all other creatures in play.
Q: Is Hissing Miasma's ability triggered for each creature attacking you, or just once for you being attacked by one or more creatures?
A: Hissing Miasma's ability will trigger once for each creature that attacks you, not just once each time you are attacked by one or more creatures.
Q: I have Venerable Monk in play and three Glorious Anthems, so he's a 5/5. When I play Spawnbroker, can I exchange my Venerable Monk with a creature that has five power?
A: You can exchange your Monk for a creature that has a power of up to five. The fact that the Monk's power becomes two when your opponent gains control of it does not matter. As long as the Monk has power greater than your opponent's creature when the ability goes on the stack and when it starts to resolve, the exchange will take place.
Q: Can my Fellwar Stone produce mana of any color if my opponent controls a Tendo Ice Bridge without any counters?
A: Yes, you can tap the Fellwar Stone for any color mana, even if the Ice Bridge has no counters on it. This is because the Ice Bridge has a mana ability that generates mana of any color.
Q: Consider an Emperor format game with six players, all of whom are still alive. Each flanker has a range of one, and each emperor has a range of two. It is the beginning of Team A's Emperor's turn. He controls Bringer of the Red Dawn. At the beginning of his upkeep, the Bringer's ability triggers, and the player takes control of a Vulturous Zombie that is currently controlled by a Team B flanker two seats to his right. During his main phase, he activates the ability that each creature in an Emperor game gains (Tap: Target teammate gains control of this creature. Play this ability only when you could play a sorcery.) and targets his teammate to his left. The question is two part. First, does the creature still remember the whole "until end of turn" now that its controller has changed? I believe it does. More importantly, does it go back to its original controller now that that player is three seats to the rightout of the range of influenceor does it just go back to the emperor?
A: You are correct that the control effect generated by the Bringer of the Red Dawn's ability will end at the end of the current turn. However the fact that this effect ends will not really do anything, as the change of control effect granted by the "Deploy Creature" ability (see Comprehensive rule 603) does not end at the end of the current turn. This means that at the end of the current turn, the flanker on Team A will keep control of this "stolen" creature. It does not matter that the effect from the Red Bringer is no longer applied, the effect from the deployment ability will determine who controls this creature.
If the change of control effect created by the deployment ability did end, then creature would return to the control of the Flanker on Team B. Range of influence does not apply to this situation.
