Rules Tip of the Day: Most matches in tournament Magic are played until one player has won 2 games, or until time has run out. It is possible to play more that three games in a match, if one or more games end in a draw.

Q: I have Souls of the Faultless out, and my opponent has a 1/1 with Loxodon Warhammer equipped. He attacks me, and I block with my wall. He is at four life. Does he lose the game?

A: Your opponent will lose the game. When combat damage is dealt, the abilities of the Souls of the Faultless and the Loxodon Warhammer will trigger at the same time. When multiple abilities trigger at the same time, they go on the stack in APNAP (Active Player, Non-Active Player) order. This means that those controlled by the active player—the Warhammer—go on the stack in whatever order he wants, followed by those controlled by the non-active player—Souls of the Faultless—in whatever order he wants. This means that the triggered ability of the Souls of the Faultless will go on the stack second and resolve first. When it resolves, your opponent's life total will go to zero, and he will lose the game before he can gain life.

Q: If an Isochron Scepter is in play, and I use the second effect of Mizzium Transreliquat on the Scepter, does it have the same imprinted card, or do I have to remove an instant from my hand?

A: The Mizzium Transreliquat will not have anything imprinted on it, and you will not be able to imprint anything on it. The card that was removed from the game was only imprinted on the original Isochron Scepter; it will not be associated with any copies of the Scepter. Also, an Isochron Scepter normally only becomes imprinted when it comes into play, as its Imprint ability triggers when it comes into play. This Mizzium Transreliquat is not coming into play—it is already in play—so the Imprint ability can not trigger.

Q: My opponent controls Meloku, the Clouded Mirror and ten lands. He has no cards in hand and is at ten life. It is my turn, and I am attacking with all of my creatures. My opponent responds by activating Meloku ten times. Can I respond by playing Chord Of Calling for a Burning-Tree Shaman, causing my opponent to take ten damage?

A: No, that does not work. The ability of Burning-Tree Shaman will only trigger if it is in play when an activated ability is played. Burning-Tree Shaman's ability will not trigger for activated abilities that have been played and are on the stack when the Shaman comes into play.

Q: Player A has a Samurai of the Pale Curtain and a Grizzly Bears blocking Player B's Savannah Lion, which is enchanted with Moldervine Cloak. Player B assigns all of his damage to the Samurai. Lethal damage removes the Lion and the Samurai from the game. Does the Moldervine Cloak get removed along with the creatures, or is the Aura leaving play a seperate event, thus ensuring that it will stay in the graveyard?

A: The Moldervine Cloak will end up in its owner's graveyard. After combat damage is dealt, state-based effects are checked and two of these creatures will have lethal damage, and would normally go to the graveyard. However, the ability of the Samurai of the Pale Curtain will cause these cards to be removed from the game instead. Then state-based effects are rechecked, and the Moldervine Cloak will go to the graveyard, as it is an Aura not enchanting a legal permanent. However, the Samurai of the Pale Curtain is no longer in play, so its ability cannot remove this card from the game.

Q: Is Magic Online dealing with this interaction correctly? I targeted a Magnivore with Kiku's Shadow, but it was not destroyed when the Shadow resolved. Is this a bug?

A: MTGO is handling this correctly. When Kiku's Shadow resolves, the Magnivore will deal damage to itself equal to its power. As the final part of Kiku's Shadow's resolution, it will go to the graveyard, which will raise the power and toughness of the Magnivore by 1. Then state-based effects will be checked. The Magnivore does not actually have lethal damage; it's one short, due to the new sorcery in the graveyard.

Q: If I have two Swamps and a Lantern-Lit Graveyard, and I tap them for mana, spending one Red mana from Lantern-Lit Graveyard to cast Blood Moon, does Lantern-Lit Graveyard untap next turn?

A: No. The effect of the Lantern-Lit Graveyard that keeps it tapped is still applied, even if the Graveyard is turned into a Mountain. The ability may not exist right now, but that will not negate the effect that was already generated.

Q: My friend enchanted his land with Genju of the Spires. So if I use Tsabo's Web, he woudn't be able to untap his land, correct? He argued that his land is now a creature, so the effects of the Tsabo's Web won't affect his enchanted lands. Who is right here?

A: Neither approach is quite correct. Your opponent is right that his lands will untap, but not for the reason he gave. The Genju enchantments do not give any activated abilities to the lands they enchant. (The exception is Genju of the Fens, which does give an activated ability, but only when the enchanted land is animated.) Tsabo's Web only "locks down" lands that have non-mana activated abilities—not lands that are enchanted by Auras with activated abilities. Even a land enchatned by Genju of the Fens will untap as normal, since it is not possible for the Genju's animation effect to be applied to the enchanted Swamp during an untap step.
