Rules Tip of the Day: Regeneration is a destruction replacement ability. When you use a regeneration ability a 'shield' is created. This shield will be used the next time th creature would be destroyed. When this shield is used, instead of going to the graveyard, this creature will stay in play, be removed from combat (if it is in combat), have all damage on it removed, and become tapped. If this shield is not used by the cleanup step of the current turn, it will go away.

Q: If Burning-Tree Bloodscale attacks, and the opponent decides to block it, can I use the ability to make the chosen blocking creature not block him that turn? Or do I have to use the ability before attacking?

A: In order to force or prevent a creature from blocking Burning-Tree Bloodscale, you must use the Bloodscale's abilities before blockers are declared. You can do this either before or immediately after attackers are declared. Using either of these abilities after blockers have been declared will not do anything.

Q: If my opponent has Leyline of the Void in play and I Boomerang it, does the Boomerang go to the graveyard, or is it removed from the game?

A: The Boomerang will go to your graveyard. When Boomerang resolves, Leyline of the Void will be returned to its owner's hand. Then, as the final part of its resolution, Boomerang will go to the graveyard. At this point the Leyline is not in play, so Boomerang will actually make it to your graveyard.

Q: I was wondering if Shred Memory ever has a chance to catch a Grave-Shell Scarab in the graveyard if the Scarab player is Dredging it, using the Scarab's sacrifice ability to generate the draw needed for its Dredge ability.

A: Yes. Because the Grave-Shell Scarab is sacrificed when its ability is activated, you can respond to this ability by playing Shred Memory. If you do, the Grave-Shell Scarab will not be in your opponent's graveyard when the ability resolves, so he will be unable to Dredge it. Choosing to Dredge does not use the stack, but you can usually respond to whatever is making this player draw a card.

Q: My opponent has just played Cranial Extraction, targeting me. I have Twincast and Remand in my hand. Is there any way I can play both of these spells so I make a copy of his Cranial Extraction, and counter his, in such a way that it is in his hand when my copy of Cranial Extraction resolves?

A: Yes, you can. After your opponent plays his Cranial Extraction, you can respond by playing Twincast and targeting his Cranial Extraction. When both of you pass priority, your Twincast will resolve and put a copy of Cranial Extraction on the stack. Before this copy resolves, you can play Remand and target your opponent's Cranial Extraction. When the Remand resolves your opponent's Cranial Extraction will be countered, returned to his hand and you will draw a card. Finally your copy of Cranial Extraction will resolve. When it does, you can name "Cranial Extraction" and remove the copy of Cranial Extraction that is in your opponent's hand.

Q: I have Leyline of Singularity in play. If I Replicate a spell, what would happen to those spells, would they go into my graveyard or something else?

A: Spells are not permanents. Any spell on the stack will be unaffected by Leyline of Singularity and resolve as normal.

Q: I have Spellshock in play and I play a morph creature face down. Will I take damage from Spellshock?

A: Yes, you did play a spell. It does not matter that you played it face down.

Q: Can I play a Burnout targeting a non-Blue card and still get the "draw a card" effect after Burnout resolves?

A: Yes. You can target any instant with Burnout. Then, when Burnout resolves, the targeted instant will be countered if it is Blue, and a delayed triggered ability is created that will cause you to draw a card at the beginning of the next turn's upkeep.

Finally, this weekend is the inaugural Two-Headed Giant Champs events in North America and part of Europe. All you need is a friend to play with; you don't even need to bring a deck, as this is a limited event. Each team will get one Ravnica tournament pack, one Ravnica booster and three Guildpact boosters form which to build two 40-card minimum decks.

For more information on Two-Headed Giant you can read the FAQ that was released last summer.
