Rules Tip of the Day: The words 'each' and 'all' do not denote or imply targeting.

Q: I gained control of my opponent's Blind Hunter with Flash Conscription, and the Blind Hunter died during that turn. Who gets to choose what creature in play the Hunter Haunts? And later, when the Haunted creature goes to the graveyard, who will gain life and who will lose it?

A: As you controlled the Blind Hunter when it left play, you will control the Haunt triggered ability. You will choose the creature in play for this Hunter to Haunt. However, as your opponent is the owner of this card, when the Haunted creature goes to the graveyard, he will control that triggered ability. Assuming he targets you, you will lose two life and he will gain it.

Q: Master Warcraft says to play it "only before attackers are declared." Does that mean before they say they're attacking, or before they choose which creature are attacking?

A: It means before the declaration of what creatures are attacking that turn. You can play Master Warcraft during the combat phase, in the beginning of combat step, or any point before that (first main phase, upkeep step, or draw step).

Q: My opponent attacks me with Phytohydra and I choose to block it. If I play Withstand and target the Phytohydra can I prevent it from getting counters?

A: No. The controller of the Phytohydra will be able to choose which replacement or prevention effect he wants to apply to the combat damage assigned to the Phytohydra. So he can choose to have its own ability replace the damage so that it will get the +1/+1 counters. Look on the bright side, at least you drew a card when Withstand resolved.

Q: I have Dragon's Claw in play and play Searing Meditation. I would gain one life from the Claw, but can I pay 2 to deal two damage to my opponent from the Meditation?

A: No. Dragon's Claw's ability will resolve before the Searing Meditation spell resolves and enters play, so the Medatation's ability will not be able to trigger on this life gain.

Q: I played Watchwolf with three lands untapped. My opponent played Mana Leak. I then tapped my three lands to pay for the Mana Leak. At this point, he played Twincast, targeting the Mana Leak. I suspect that he can't do that once I pay the three mana. At that point, hasn't the Mana Leak resolved (meaning that it can't be targeted by the Twincast)?

A: You are correct, you pay the three mana when the Mana Leak resolves. The next time your opponent can take an action, it is not on the stack and cannot be copied by Twincast. In order to make a copy of the Mana Leak, your opponent would have to play Twincast before you pay the addition three mana when the original Mana Leak resolves.

Q: If I have two copies of In the Eye of Chaos in play and my opponent plays Accumulated Knowledge, does he have to pay two or four for it to resolve?

A: What you have described cannot happen. In the Eye of Chaos is a world enchantment and only one world enchantment can be in play at any given time. However, assuming that you could have two in play at one time, then your opponent would have to pay an additional 4 to have his Accumulated Knowledge resolve.

Q: I'm interested if I could play Cursed Scroll's ability without having any cards in my hand?

A: Yes, you can use Cursed Scroll's ability, even if you do not have any cards in your hand. When this ability resolves, your opponent will not be able to randomly choose one, so the target will not receive any damage, but that does not mean that you could not have played the ability.

Q; In a Two-Headed Giant game, I attack the opposing team with my Mindleech Mass and it is chump blocked by a 4/4 creature. Can I choose to assign one point of trample damage to each head in order to make the Mindleech Mass's ability trigger twice?

A: No. When assigning excess trample damage in a Two-Headed Giant game, you can only choose only a single player on the opposing team to assign this damage to. Mindleech Mass's ability will only trigger once, and you will only be able to play a card from the hand of the player that received this damage.
