Rules Tip of the Day: In tournament play, players are allowed to take notes and use those notes within a match. They are expected to take these notes in a 'timely manner' and cannot use notes from outside a match. Players are not allowed to take notes while drafting.
Q: If I remove a sorcery with Muse Vessel, can I use the second ability during my opponent's turn to play the sorcery?
A: No. You can only play the cards that have been removed by Muse Vessel when they could normally be played. Muse Vessel does not change anything about when they can be played, only what zone they can be played from.
Q: Does Valor Made Real allow Vigean Hydropon to block?
A: Nope. In Magic "can't" always beats "can." So the fact that the Hydropon cannot block at all will override the ability that allows it to block any number of creatures.
Q: If I put Followed Footsteps on a Dimir Doppleganger and then make the Doppelganger a copy of some creature, what token do I get? Does it matter if it was already copying the creature? Can I change what the copy is later?
A: The copy created by Followed Footsteps will be a copy of whatever the original Dimir Doppelganger is copying when Followed Footsteps's triggered ability resolves, plus it will have the Dimir Doppelganger's ability. This is because the only effects that copy effects copy are other copy effects. If you later change what the original Doppelganger is copying, the copies will be unaffected. And yes, you can use the Doppelganger abilities of the copies to change what they copy.
Q: If Maga, Traitor to Mortals is in play with ten counters on him and I want to cast Disembowel targeting Maga, will X be thirteen or three?
A: Just three. When in any zone other than the stack, the value of X in the converted mana cost of a object is zero.
Q: I attack my friend who is at three life. I have just three cards left in my library. My creatures deal three damage to him, but he blocks a Serra Angel with the Belltower Sphinx, does he lose the game or is a draw?
A: Your opponent will lose the game. First of all, you do not lose the game when you have an empty library, you lose the game when you attempt to draw a card from an empty library. However, your opponent will lose the game before the last few cards in your library are milled. This is because Belltower Sphinx's ability is a triggered ability that uses the stack. When combat damage is dealt in this situation, the Sphinx's ability will trigger, but before this triggered ability can go on the stack, your opponent will lose the game.
Q: If I stole my opponent's land with Annex, and I sacrifice it to Wildfire while my opponent has Sacred Ground, will the stolen land return to him?
A: Yes. Sacred Ground's ability triggers whenever a spell or ability controlled by you causes a land to go to its owner's graveyard. In this example, you may be sacrificing the land, but as your opponent is the owner of the land, it will go to his graveyard. This will cause Sacred Ground's ability to trigger, and the land will be returned to play under his control when the triggered ability resolves.
Q: If I have Hunter Sliver and Goblin War Drums, can my Slivers each Provoke a specific creature (assuming they all can block) to make my Slivers unblockable?
A: No. When declaring blockers a player has to maximize the number of blocking requirement but not violate any blocking restrictions. Your opponent can choose to take two creatures that have each been provoked by different Slivers and have them both block one of the provoking Slivers. This way he is not violating the restriction created by Goblin War Drums, but he is fulfilling the requirements created by as any Provoke abilities as he can.
Q: In a Two-Headed Giant event, what number of tokens will be produced when we are at thirty-nine life and I play Storm Herd?
A: Twenty. Storm Herd's effect looks at your life total. In a two-headed giant game effect that look at your life total will take half of the team's life total rounded up. 39 / 2 = 19.5. Round that up and you get 20.
