Rules Tip of the Day: All cards and permanents have a converted mana cost. Tokens and lands do not have anything in the upper right corner, so they have a converted mana cost of zero, unless otherwise noted.
Q: I have Sprouting Phytohydra and Windreaver in play. If I cast Cytoshape on the Windreaver, making it a copy of the Phytohydra in response to it being damaged, will it make a copy of itself, and will the copy turn into a Windreaver at the end of turn?
A: The Windweaver that has been made into a Sprouting Phytohydra will make a copy of itself when dealt damage. However this copy will be a Sprouting Phytohydra, and it will remain one even when the Windreaver reverts back to normal. This is because the copy effect of the Phytohydra makes a copy of whatever the permanent current is.
However it is possible to do what you want with the cards you listed. To do this you need to deal damage to the Phytohydra, and then after the Phytohydra's triggered ability is on the stack you can use the Cytoshape to make the Phytohydra a copy of the Windreaver. Then, when the Phytohydra's ability resolves, it will make a token copy of a Windreaver.
Q: Can I sacrifice Ghost Quarter, targeting itself, then search my library for a basic land and put it into play? If so, that'd be almost as good as the old fetchlands.
A: No that does not work. This is because Ghost Quarter's ability targets. You can target the Ghost Quarter itself with its own ability, but if you do, this ability will be countered on resolution when the ability resolves, and you will not be able to search for a basic land.
Q: If I play the Hide half of Hide / Seek, targeting my opponent's Umezawa's Jitte, and then play Twincast, can I play the Seek half of the copied spell, removing a card from my opponent's library (not necessarily the Jitte)??
A: No, it doesn't work like that. Twincast makes a copy of the spell that is on the stack, not the card. In this, instance the spell on the stack is Hide, so you'll end up with two copies of Hide on the stack.
Q: Am I correct in thinking that if I play Ideas Unbound and then Ignorant Bliss in the same turn, I can stack the effects of the cards so that I can first 'discard 3 cards'—from my empty hand—and then return the cards removed from the game to my hand?
A: Yes, you can do that. As the controller of the two delayed triggered abilities generated by these two spells, you an choose the order that they go on the stack. You can choose to put the Ideas Unbound delayed triggered ability on top of the stack so you will discard three cards before your hand is returned to you.
Q: I have Doubling Season, Power Conduit, and Arcbound Worker in play with one counter on it. Can I tap Power Conduit, remove the +1/+1 counter from Arcbound Worker, and then put it back onto him, doubled by Doubling Season? Does he die before I can target him for it?
A: No, that does not work. You remove a counter from a permanent you control when you activate Power Conduit's ability, and after you activate this ability, state-based effects are checked. If you remove the lone counter from the worker to activate this ability it will be a 0/0 creature when state-based effects are checked and it will go to the graveyard.
Q: On Magic Online, I had a Dimir Doppleganger copying a Belfry Spirit. The Doppleganger died, and I haunted one of my creatures. When that creature died, I didn't get any tokens. Is this correct, and why?
A:Yes, this is correct. When the copied Belfry Spirit goes to the graveyard, its Haunt ability will trigger. However, once this card leaves play, the copy effect ends and it is just a Dimir Doppelganger card. When the haunted creature goes to the graveyard, the card haunting it does not have a Haunt ability to trigger.
Q: Can Curtain of Light target an unblockable creature?
A: Yes. Unblockable means that it can not be blocked by creatures at the beginning of the declaration of blockers step. An unblockable creature can still be blocked by spells and abilities.
Q: There is a Trinisphere in play, and two other artifacts. If I play Shattering Spree and Replicate it twice to target all three of these artifacts, will I pay RRR or 2RRR?
A: You will pay three red mana. The mana you pay for the Replicate cost counts towards the total cost of the spell. You paid three mana when playing Shattering Spree, so Trinisphere's ability will not make you pay any more.
